The wedding ring is traditionally closest to the heart, and the engagement ring is generally not worn down the aisle. If the rings are a set, made to go together, they are waiting at the alter that way and both put on as though they were one ring, which essentially they are once you're married. Some couples even go, after the wedding, and have the two rings lightly soldered together, making them easier to wear for the long term.

If the rings are not a set, then only the wedding ring is worn on that finger, but the bride should always arrive at the alter with no rings on her left hand at all. It's sort of like the veil and the white dress, signs of coming to the groom with purity, whether its a true fact or not.

But the wedding ring should be worn closest to the heart, because its the marriage that is the most sacred and important thing, not just the fact that she was asked, ya know?

Hey. The engagement ring is on the finger before the wedding ring is - ie. the engagement ring would be closer to the palm (and therefore heart) than the position of the wedding ring. I suppose that the bride can wear the engagement ring down the aisle, not like there's law against it, but the idea is that you have no rings on your hands at all - so the focus is all on the wedding ring being slipped on, because the wedding ring is by far more important than the engagement ring.

From a professional Wedding Consultant:

The wedding band is the one that should be closest to the heart. So, when she's walking down the aisle, her engagement ring is supposed to be on the right hand and then after you have exchanged rings, she will move her engagement ring back over to her ring finger.

Ok, my experiences:

I love both my rings and i wear both on different fingers now. I got my wedding ring on my ring finger and the engagement on my right hand. Basically it depends on the bride, whether she walks down the aisle with the ring on her finger or not. What most brides do is design their own rings to go with the engagement piece, that way its made into one whole wedding ring and you get to wear it on one finger. If thats the case you do not wear the ring but instead keep it with the other wedding pieces for the Priest to bless during the ceremony.

The wedding band is closet to your heart so wear it frist, the your engagement ring. When walking downt he isle wear your engagement ring on your right hand. This is what my grandmother told me. I hope it helps. I have to do the same in a few weeks.
