In the 12th and 13th centuries the Catholic Church declared a holy war on cats, because they were ambassadors of the devil (no diplomatic immunity it seems). After two centuries of persecution, the cat population of Europe was decimated, and there followed an explosion in the rat (and by proxy rat flea) population, bringing with it the Plague. The Church duly reversed its position on cats, and issured a new proclaimation that antone caught abusing a cat would be excommunicated.

An interesting addition to this historical event is the inauguration of pope Felix, the first and last cat pope. Unfortunately Felix was run over by a cart on his first day on the job so the role passed back into human hands.

no, this is not ture. the whole reason the cats were killed was because people thought that they were carrying the plague. Just one of those stupid decisions made in life to kill the only thing that can save you. Aren't humans clever
