No matter what they say, they ARE backyard breeders and shouldnt be overcharging for a dog that should cost as much as, say, at the animal rescue.
No matter what "genetic testing" is done, they still dont know the general outcome of how the animal will be, and whether it will be for a better or worse. I myself, believe if you want a mutt, which mutts are fantastic too, I love them as much as fullbreds, but if you want one- get it at the animal rescue/shelter near you. Not some backyard breeder who calls his or herself a genetic scientist given right to be altering genetics purposely.
There's enough of a problem with over population of dogs and cats due to lack of spaying and neutering and backyard breeders who are experimenting with breeds arent helping ANY of the matter. Simply more pups to end up at another animal rescue or sadly, a pound, someday.

Well the peek-a-poo has been around for a long time. The cockapoo has been around since the 1950's. People that are responsible breeder's do not take any "random" 2 dogs. They take the best of each breed and then breed them. Note: I said "responsible" breeder please..
And then, every "purebred" out there is a mix, they all started out with a mixture of 2 or more breeds to get what is now a purebred dog. Look up each breed history and it will tell you...Do a little research before you go off on people.
Mixes also tend to have a lot less health issues as well.. I breed cockapoos. And I breed 2nd generation and 3rd. This means I took a cocker and a poodle of high quality, bred them then I had 1st generation cockapoos.
I then took 2, 1st generation cockpaoos of fine quality and I bred them, they had 2nd generation cockapoos, then I bred 2 2nd generation cockapoos of fine quality and that gave me 3rd generation cockapoos.
I now must form a club/registry for cockapoos, I did that. Now we need 300 documented 3rd generation litters to get AKC.. Now how long do you think this would take? 5 years? 10 years? NO many more..
So, as you can see, we don't just shove any 2 dogs together and charge a bundle. that 600 for that peekapoo was pretty cheap really.. I have seen them for over 1200.00..
I sell my cockapoos for 950.00 and 975.00.. And yes, I DO make money, why shouldn;t I? I put a lot of work into the genetics, the side you dont see... The cost of the mother and sire's and raising them. Having genetic testing done on my adults to make sure they are healthy to breed!!!!
I am a breeder, I buy a pup and I pay double! The last cockapoo I bought cost me 1900.00..QUALITY costs! I feed them, I vaccinate, then I raise up a litter, I whelp that litter. I spend time socializing each puppy daily!
Then I have to feed those puppies for 8-10 weeks, mom only does it for 3-4! Then I vaccinate each puppy at least 2 times, de-worm them. Take them for a check up to the vet. Last 2 litters I had a total of 15 puppies. YOU ADD THAT UP.
Yes people actually buy them you dork. My puppies are sometimes all sold before they are even born! I guarantee my puppies for 2 years against health problems. Have never had one yet come back with health problems! THAT is GOOD breeding!
You cannot get any of that at a shelter.. People do not like to go to shelters much anymore, you know why? Because the dogs are full of issues, they do not have background info on them, do not know where they came from. And the shelters and rescues charge to much for an animal with issues, and often health problems.
Our local shelter charges as much as 450.00 for a small dog..DOn't believe me, look up Pierce county washington human society.. I have gone there and seen it with my own eyes. Plus, you rarely if even find small dogs at the shelters. Last time I went they had 3 and 2 were 350.00 and 1 was 450.00..And they looked terrible!
So why do people put 2 diff breeds together and charge so much? Mostly, because they can! There are some mixes out there I do not agree with because they are not trying to make a new breed and they do do it just for $$, those are normally your puppy mills, they sell to pet stores as well as the public..
You want to whine, go look up puppy mills and then come back here because then you will have something to say.. Trust me!

Some people think the more they spend on a dog, the better the quality will be. Not true. Also, I know lots of idiot people who go by the "status" of paying alot of money for a so called "purebred" or even like you say "purebred mix" They are stupid. You're right-go to the shelter and get any "designer mutt" you want-save a life, make a new friend. Everyone wins!!!!!

In my honest opinion, these people are puppy miller's. Most people do not do enough research before purchasing a puppy, these unscrupulous puppy miller's will say anything and make outrageous claims as to the health and registration status to sell their "designer" dogs for anywhere from $500.00 to $2000.00 This is definitely a buyer beware situation. The local SPCA's are full of mixed breed and purebred dogs for any one just looking for a family pet.

They only do it because there are stupid people that think they are getting something "rare"!!!!! If people stopped paying those prices for a mutt, other people would stop breeding them!!!!!!!!
It is funny though, when these people talk about showing the little mutt, because these "breeders" have led them to think they are an actual breed!!!!!!

I guess they do it either because they 'think' that 2 'mutts' as you call 'em, make a true breed of dog. And maybe the more important reason is to make money off of people!

My mother-in-law bought a "pure bread spaniel" for my daughter one year. She bought the flea infested puppy from my sister-in-law. A few months later, there was no doubt that the Irish Setter had gotten hold of mommy. What was truly upsetting was that my Spitz had to be gotten rid of because we were allowed only one pet. Sister-in-law attempted to deny and I did not dispute because had to keep peace they were ex-in-laws. After eighteen years, I still morn the loss of my Spitz.

People are fools! They now think of these crossbred mongrels as "designer dogs" and so-called "breeders" are taking advantage of their ignorance. What do you expect from people who have done so little research before they buy a dog that they have to come onto this site to have someone else NAME their puppy?! Makes me sick, too!
