It is free to download, yes. When it is finally released the cheapest version will probably sell for $150 and the most expensive $500, but I am just guessing.
Also rember it is a BETA, i.e. it's a test version. There are still many bugs which need to be fixed. At the moment you can try it out to see how your computer and your hardware are going to function the release version. Also it is to test your present applications compatibility with the new operating system.

Yeah. But you're advised yo buy a $6 dollar DVD because of the number of downloads that are going on at once. And buying vista is going to be a heafty price.

yeah, it's free, and it's a beta version, so expect bugs that you will encounter as you use it, and it's only free for 1 year, it says there in the website that it's only valid until july 2007, so you should still buy from them afterwards, for the final release and launch of the new OS by early next year.

Its free but it is a Beta trial version. You would do better to wait until the proper version comes out in Jan 2007
