They don't "get" anything. And I disagree with the "we have to vote" to change things. Please. Let me see here...should I vote for crook #1 or crook #2? Eh..if you all want to vote them in go ahead. I was very young when the Ted Kennedy Chappaquiddick thing went on..10 to be exact; and even at that age I could never understand how it was possible that the American public could continue to vote him back into office. So my position as a 10yr old hasn't changed at all: that being, EVERYONE should quit voting AT ALL and let the government know that WE, the people are the ones referred to in the Constitution and they damn well better start paying attention to that.
So now that that is clear...the immigration thing. Yes they understand and it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because the laws that are already in place AT THIS POINT IN TIME are not even recognized or enforced and all they are trying to do is justify the fact that they are allowing immigrants to break THEIR laws on a daily basis just because is financially convenient. We have a Constitution and it sure would be nice if we started using it again someday. Until then, I would encourage everyone NOT to vote...for anyone or anything.

I don't see how they can fail to understand it. Yet if a poll asks 'are you OK with a guest worker program' and people say yes, the Wall Street Journal and Senators will say 'see they prefer our bill!'. They ignore that the plain meaning of 'guest worker' is a temporary one, which their Bill does not provide for. They also add family on top of the workers and don't mention those at all. They also ignore the reasonable limit anyone answering a poll would assume.
I honestly now think they know what we mean but are being 'confused' on purpose because they want what they want, and are trying to twist their words so they can say 'Gee! I thought I was doing what you wanted!'
However, I don't think that will help them in November or in 2008.

They get it, and they get a lot of other things too, like the fact that they have too high pay and too many benefits that the average citizen doesn't have.
The reason Congress can get by with all this is because only about 50% of Americans ever vote.
Change it by encouraging everyone to vote !

No because it is their fault they've allowed it to happen in the first place. That whole business about letting them stay if they put one foot on American soil is BS.
I'm all about people coming to America to better themselves and the lives of their family, but they need to follow the same rules, pay the same taxes, and speak the same language as everyone else.

None of the politicians get it. We need to find out who is suppose to enforce the immigration laws and make them enforce them.
WE means congress. The law is on the books. No one is enforcing them. Just do it.

No-they think you will accept it rather you like it or not and you will get over it. And we are to ignorant to know any better. And it helps them so what is the difference. And their fat rich life remains good. Don't put any in office. I don't care for Bush but he can be taught to bend.

The senate understands but will not listen to those who elected them. Remember this when they are up for re-election.
