No one really knows.
There is no credible evidence to support the claim.
"While some historians consider Jesus to largely be a mythological and legendary entity, (Jesus freaks claim he exists)"

Yes Jesus is historical..There is a historical writer at the time of Jesus that mentions Jesus on different ocassions.Flavius Josephus. He was also mentioned in the writings of Cornelius Tacitus..now for those who claim there were many named Jesus...were there many named Jesus who were mentioned wiht the Christains and were crucified by Pontious Pilot....these were in the writings of Tacitus...In the writings of Josepus...........................About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he was one who performed surprising deeds and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. He was the Messiah. And when, upon the accusation of the principal men among us, Pilate had condemned him to a cross, those who had first come to love him did not cease. He appeared to them spending a third day restored to life, for the prophets of God had foretold these things and a thousand other marvels about him. And the tribe of the Christians, so called after him, has still to this day not disappeared.

I don't know but many on this site will give all sorts of 'proof' that he did.
For someone that performed miracles, annoyed the authorities, claimed to be the son of god and was crucified, remarkably little was written about him apart from the gospels. I have my doubts.
His (if he existed) teachings were remarkable though and are very similar to my own philosophy. It's just a pity that the ' christians ' here don't follow them.
Toutatis, care to cite some of your references that indicate that jesus existed

Yes, Jesus did actually exist. He is referenced in other contemporary writings from the period, which shows that there was indeed a man named Jesus living at that time.
Whether he was the son of any god or not is entirely a matter of personal faith so I won't be getting into that.

I would like to believe he did exist, and there are many historical writings to prove it, but also jesus was a a popular name then too. Do I believe he is the actuall physical son of God, that I am not so sure on as much as he was a the spirital son of God.

Did Jesus give up Saturday for us?
Jesus? Christianity? .
If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.
Gods do not die? Do they?
If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?
If Jesus died for our sins, he should be dead, dead, dead!

Yes. There is a lot of evidence that a man named Y'houshua bar Youssefin existed. Much of the non-dogmatic evidence suggests that he was a member of a splinter group of Jews known as the Essenes (little fishes). He was a political, social and spiritual rebel, as all good prophets should be!
Look to the writings of Josephus.

Yes. He is half man- half divine. Even with the Da Vinci Code hype, the da vinci code tells us that jesus is only human and not really divine. So therefore, Jesus did exist whether he is just a human or human/divine.

According to some sources, if you are looking for other historical mentions of him in works other then the Bible, you can also check out writings by Tacitus, Suetonius, and Pliny the Younger, as does Josephus (Joseph ben Matthias). I think the Apocrypha also has a few mentions.
