Since you put the question in this category, I suppose you mean we should love God the most. However, I'm not really religious.
There are many things I like very much, but there is only one thing that changed me radically: my girlfriend. She's a very cute girl (she's similar to your avatar - do I get the 10 points now? lol), and since I've had her, she's the only thing I care about. Why do I love her the most in this world? Well, apart from being a most pretty and sexy girl, she is also very funny and sensitive. I love her when she’s angry, sad, happy, silly, crazy. Also, she can always turn me on, although we’ve been together for quite a while. Even now, when I’m writing these lines, I’m quite stiff although I’m at my workplace and I don’t think naughty. I only need to think of her and my body is already under her control. And you know, she can make me do anything for her. So far I’ve been saving always most of my money, and now I’m spending it all on her. I’m doing exercises and use fancy chemicals to make her proud of me, although she never asked that, and she wouldn’t leave me if I didn’t behave such way. We may not be perfect body or soul mates, but we’re so attached that we couldn’t live without each other. In simple words: I love her.

Well, in many religious traditions, to love or desire something in the world generally leads to strife and suffering. To get attached to the world makes it harder when it is time to let go. As for me personally, I love not what is of this world, but He that Created it - according to my beliefs, this is YHWH Elohim. Because He is the one I love the most within and outside of this world - it determines how I lead my life and how I view the things placed in my path. As far as "WHY".... I love that which is Eternal and place my trust in that which has always been - as opposed to that which passes away (the world and all that is in it).

p.s. to love anything else more than YHWH would be idolatry -

Hello dear!
I think that LOVE is something that comes out of us, like the water from a spring! In given circumstances and conditions, what comes out does not depends on others. Thus, LOVE in not the feelings we have for someone or something! This might be called affection or else!
Thus, I can't tell that I love something more or less!

Besides God -- my children. I found nothing could have prepared me for how I felt the first time I held my first baby. I cried all day because all I could think was, "Wow...my Mom feels this way about ME!" When your parents tell you that you'll understand certain things "when you have kids of your own" -- there's a good reason!

And, come to think of it, the older I get, the more I love and appreciate my own parents and siblings.

Why, God of course. Because HE IS in this world, because HE
IS the world. All else is secondary. And of course, I love you too.
