I lost 18 pounds a few months ago by limiting my food intake, increasing my water intake, and using a treadmill to boost my metabolism. I aimed for a mile each time I used the treadmill. I tried to go a little faster each day. Once I started to lose the weight, it started to come off fairly quickly. Getting started is the hard part. You can do it!

Are you a woman? What's your height? age?

The following works for me and I'm 5'6", 40 years old.

Basic diet guidelines per day:

1) Eat as many vegetables and fruit as you want
2) Eat up to 4 slices of whole wheat bread or any whole grain/cereal equivalent
3) Eat up to 4 oz. of lean mean or fish
4) Eat/drink 2 servings of low-fat dairy
5) Minimize or eliminate high calorie/fat foods
6) Eliminate fast food
7) Minimize the number of times per week you go out to eat (once a week is maximum)
8) Drink at least 48 oz. of water (on top of whatever else you drink) - probably the best thing you can do
9) Exercise (50 min. brisk walk 3 - 5 times a week; dance at a fast past 30 min. 5 times a week; swim, cycle, whatever gets your heart pumping. Sustain the activity for at least 30 min. at a time)
10) Don't deprive yourself! If you have a craving for chocolate, eat some chocolate. Not the whole bar or bag! But studies have proven that those who consume what they crave in small quantities, tend to want that particular food less often and don't binge on it the way those who deprive themselves totally do.

You don't need to spend a lot of money on fancy diet plans or gyms/equipment or make huge changes in your diet to lose weight. Just eliminating regular soda is enough to work for some people. The key is moderation and determination. Master those two concepts and you can take off the weight and keep it off. I have for 5 years now. Good luck!

I happened upon a site called DietWatch. (http://www.dietwatch.com) This is a customizable tracking program for monitoring daily food intake and exercise, along with a community of other users and experts all sharing information making this a most supportive environment. With the food diary, you track every morsel that you put in your mouth which is accumulated for a daily summary to be compared to the dietary goals you input when you register (and can update at anytime thereafter). There is even a means for adding a food item to the mammoth database of foods by inputting the "Nutrition Facts" found on every package of food sold today.

You can get fairly good exercise equipment for around $100 almost anywhere they are sold. This way you wouldn't have to enroll in a gym.
