Does Voodoo actually work?

I don't think so, except for the self-fullfilling prophecy aspect. I think it has been reported that victims of a voodoo curse actually got sick and died, but that is probably because it bothered them so much to believe they had been cursed. (Edit: also, these "reports" are not from a scientific paper, it is just something I heard).

Also it certainly has an effect on the voodoo practicioner, too - he feels more empowered etc. But I think it is all psychological.

Personally, while being agnostic, I think there is something to the concept of karma for similiar reasons as there is to voodoo. I don't think there are external powers that will punish you for your bad karma or whatever, but you yourself will. Your bad conscience will make you hurt yourself. Also, the rules are just useful in themselves, don't be bad to other people, or they might seek revenge etc. I am just mentioning this to advise you against using voodoo, it doesn't sound like a very healthy way to strive for empowerment - I think it would hurt your soul.

Yes astrologers are mentioned in places in the bible though usually not in favorable terms as astrology is used in babylonian teachings, worship and associated with demonic practices.
