Yup take your dog to the vet ... along with a fresh fecal sample to be checked for worm eggs. It is essential to determine what type of worms (if any) your dog has and then treating with the proper medication which is available from your vet. If you read the label of the OTC dewormer you'll find it effective for a specific type of internal parasite (usually roundworms) but it will not be effective in removing tapeworms, or whipworms, etc. Best to err on the side of caution and make that visit to the vet!

Definitely take your dog to the vet to determine exactly what kind of worms he has. Tape worms are most common but he could have whip, hook, or several different kinds. Most over the counter de-wormers do not work very well, especially any made by Harts or Seargents. Your vet will give you the correct medicine in the correct amounts. Once your dog has been dewormed, give him Sentinel once a month to prevent further infestation. As many worms live in the ground and your dog will just pick them up again.

I would advise you to take the dog to the vet if you dont know much about worms. Usually worms can be cured by over the counter products.

Over the counter only works for certain types. If you don't know what kind they are, you need to find someone who does. A vet will know. Also, your pet may have other health issues from having this problem that the over the counter might not fix.

Take it to the vet. The medications they'll give you are sure of working. My puppy had worms when we got him, and within one treatment they were gone. I used the ones from a pet store with my last dog and it took three doses to get rid of the worms, and in the mean time she lost alot of weight and got sick. I learned the hard way :D.

If the worms are long spaghetti appearing worms, then the pet shop remedies work fine.
If the worms look like rice grains, then he needs the prescription wormer from the vet.

You should take him to the vet. one treatment should work, it's not that expensive. You should also get him a check up so he can have a clean bill of health, just for piece of mind. Also your dog might have heartworms.
