I had a kitten with a constant case of diarrhea. He had intestinal parasites. I don't know what kind. I had to give him medication, and the vet also told me to mix canned cat food with cooked pumpkin, for the fiber, to help him clean his intestinal tract.
It took months to cure him. My cat was a stray, and had been living on his own, but he insisted on adopting me.
I would also ask the pet store. It seems irresponsible for them to distribute sick animals. Were they giving away animals that were too sick to sell, or were they doing it to help out a shelter?
Anyway, if one kitten was ill, chances are others might be too, so they may have some idea of what is going on.
But diarrhea is dangerous in an animal that is so small, and if she is a runt, she may have been ill for quite a while.

RE:
What do you do when a kitten has diarrhea?
Thursday the local pet store was giving away kittens and I decided to get one. She is 6 weeks old and very small. Last night I noticed that she had a slight case of diarrhea but it wasn't anything serious. Tonight she is just releasing herself as she walks.

Apparently there was a reason they were giving them away. Take it to the vet ASAP it may have coccidia. And that is fatal to kittens and also highly contagious (to pets not humans).
Kaopectate, pedialyte (for babies) and canned food is very helpful. But she will need some Albon which takes 10 days to treat and she will get worse before she gets better.
If that is what she has then the pet store should be contacted because most likely all the other kittens and puppies will be infected too.

LESSON LEARNED!!! NEVER BUY A PET FROM A PET STORE BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS!! The pet store was obviously trying to get rid of the kittens. Before doing anything, get the kitten to a vet. Do not use home remedies like Pepto-bismol on a KITTEN especially if it is that sick. You do not want to make the situation worse if you don't know what is wrong.
Selling animals in pet stores is cruel and this is the prime reason. PLEASE go to a shelter or a breeder next time. Even shelters who get sick animals will not release them until they are healthy again. Pet stores are just in it for the quick buck. It's disgraceful.

What are you feeding her. Milk, believe it or not can cause diarrhea and so can the canned cat food. Stop the milk and put her on dry kitten chow. If this dosn't work then she may have aquired worms from her mother(happens alot). Take her to the vet since she needs shots any ways and get a dewormer.

This can be deadly for a kitten not to alarm you.It is important that you keep the kitten hydrated lots of water.Keep putting water on the cats nose and it will lick it off.DO NOT GIVE IT MILK!!!That causes diarrhoea.Make sure the the litter box is clean.fresh water everywhere the cat hangs out.No wet meat only dry it also keeps you from having dental bills later.Start the cat off with a good dry food no treats or human food or wet meat cat food. The dry food should be light not regular if indoor cat.If you can afford it take the cat to a vet.or on the cheap the humane society, but make sure the cat has its shots first if old enough,The humane society is more apt to giving your cat a virus etc.than a vet.but they are still very good on the hole.If it lasts more than 3 days get it to the a specialist pronto.David good luck I have 2 cats bennevis@sympatico.ca

Put her in a small kennel with a litter box, food, and water. Contact the pet store and ask if the kitten has been wormed and/or vaccinated. Make an appt with a vet ASAP. They'll be better able to assist you than yahoo :)

The poor kitten is obviously unwell. Bring her to the vet as soon as you can, as baby animals tend to go down quite fast. If she's already releasing as she walks, she may be suffering from electrolyte imbalances and dehydration from excessive loss. When bringing her to the vet, bring along the food you've been feeding her, as there may be a chance that she's having the diarrhoea because she's not taking well to the food itself.
Your vet will advice you on what exactly is wrong with your kitten, as well as the treatment for her.
Good luck.

All kittens are born with worms. Usually round worms or tape worms. The simple remedy is too take kitty to the vet and have her de-wormed. Afterwards, you should see a difference in her. I was a vet tech for about 2 years.

It may be from a change of food between what the shelter was feeding her and what you are. I would also get her into a vet and get a stool sample checked to make sure she doesn't have any intestinal parasites. Pepto works, but it's only a temporary fix to the underlying problem.
