The toilet should be closed.

It's healthier to have it closed, especially before you flush.
Research has shown spray from a flushing toilet contaminates toothbrushes, so it inevitably ends up on our own bodies if we stand next to the toilet and flush.

It is just as easy for the man to lift the lid and seat together, as it is for the woman to lift the lid alone. Then the woman lowers the lid when she's done, and the man lowers the lid and seat together.

The most sanitary way to live is to close the toilet when you are done, then flush.
It doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman!

If it is a matter of between house members (i.e. just people who live in the house) I think whichever gender in the majority can rule (on seat up or down).
However, when guests come I think it should ALWAYS be lid and seat down.

Why do men feel the need to mark their territory and pee all over the seat? I mean it's not like girls, they can even hold their 'spout' in place and direct it directly into the bowl (unlike girls) and yet some STILL do it seemingly everywhere but the actual toilet bowl!
It's disgusting fellas, sort it out (if you must do it, at least wipe the seat afterwards and don't expect the next person to, it's gross)!!!

hmmm...get rid of ur toilet seat. that way u don't have to worry about the up and down position. But we don't want to hear any complaining when u have to sit on that thin rim or falling into the toilet or have ur *** touch cold toilet water when u have to take a crap...then u'll be thankful when we leave the seat in the down position.

Does it really matter. I mean its only a seat. I'm a woman and I don't care whether I have to put the seat down or not. Frankly I'd rather put the seat down than find it was wet because a man didn't put it up.

I feel sorry for you for asking that question. You must really be desparate for women to email you. well, congrats guess it worked. I think all toilets should be 'squat' toilets like they have in asia and then you wouldn't even have a seat to put up or down. And wow, I just gave you another question to ask. Good luck on those emails!

I think it has to do with touching the seat.

Women get into "commando mode" when they enter a bathroom. All of a sudden, they see germs on everything from the doorknob, to the faucet handle.

I really think this is what it boils down to. . .just having to touch the toilet seat with anything other than buttcheeks.

Ladies?

You're gonna get some nasty answers here!

Why don't you pretend to be a woman one night and when you get up in the middle of the night desperate to pee (and half asleep) sit down instead of stand up, you'll soon discover why we moan so much when the seat isn't down and we're too tired to notice.

It's bad enough we have to wipe the seat before we sit on it every time thanks to the men who pee on it.

And the times we have to wash around the base of the loo because men miss the pan and we end up standing in it.

If you have a big problem with putting the toilet seat down, you might be in serious trouble.
