It depends on the source of your tap water, but generally it has chlorine in it and bottled water has it and other impurities taken out.

In every country the local authorities take great care in the filtration and purification process of water. At this, point of source, the water is bacteria free and potable (suitable for human consumption)
Thereafter the water gets distributed thru pipes & tankers, stored in overhead tanks & sumps. This is the place of contamination. If we want to know how safe the tap water is, send a sample of it for testing.
The bottle water industry does similar filteration processes and treatments depending upon their source of water either from a bore well or any other ground source.
After filteration the water is directly packed in PET/Glass bottles or Jars.
Comparing the two you will get a clue to your Q.

Bottle water comes from a source which has a certain taste based on the chemical content. Tap water also has ingredients to reduce the bacteria.

If you put lots of ice and a dash of lemon, see if you can tell the differences. Your sense of smell is very high.

Bottled water goes through what I would imagine to be a series of purification processes. Also, minerals that are added to bottled water could contribute to the better taste.

Tap water's got all sorts of chemicals in it, not necessarily all bad. Fluorine, for example, is present in tap water, and this helps teeth enamel (same thing found in fluorine rinses at the dentists' offices). Chlorine is used to disinfect - doesn't taste to great, but necessary. There are also other chemical compounds found in tap water, like calcium chloride, which is what makes water 'hard.'

It usually tastes better cause it is filtered and it takes out all the dirt and added stuff that does not need to be in there. so the bottled kind is purified and happy.

it doesnt ur crazy. the government has hypnotized you through subliminal advertising to buy bottled water. The money is going to fund the war in iraq, but there really isnt anything going on over there,so it is really just going to decorate the white house and to buy lawn gnomes and such.
