It seems to me that if it were legal, then there would be less disease going around, because in Nevada the prostitutes have to have monthly checks, I know because I used to drive them to the clinics in Vegas. I don't think it would help the rape problem, because rape isn't about sex, it's about power, and brutelism. I'm thinking about the single guys and girls that don't want to play the game of dating, just wanting sex.

As with so many other controversial issues in America, social values, religion, politics, and economics commingle to produce an awkward and most often contradictory melange that is uniquely American. On the right we have Puritanical conservatives who feel that prostitution is immoral debauchery that should outlawed, and on the left we have feminist groups who believe that any "industry" which portrays women in a position of powerlessness- as they interpret pornography and prostitution to be- should be banned. In this strange mix of bed-persons (I shan't say "fellows" since it might appear sexist or misogynist) we have politicians who are afraid to touch this issue, but who have no problem soliciting as long as they can control the economic purse strings in their own districts.

Ironically, as you state, legalized prostitution might actually reduce the number of crimes and STD's associated with illicit prostitution, while possibly reducing the rates of sexual offenses because it provides a readily available sexual outlet. In addition, while many "pimps" are misogynistic and abusive, many prostitutes operating legally (as in the Netherlands) have absolute control- and power- over what they do and how much they earn. It is actually illicit prostitution that is most often associated with the abuse of women.

But don't expect common sense to enter the fray any time soon: common sense is usually the last party to join the debate in America.

Well. I think prostitution is wrong for the simple fact that you have to pay for it. Why should you, when sex comes so freely. The government is going to look down on anything that has to do with money, its not something that can be a tax write off. And some diseases can't be detected until some time has passed. if you have sex with someone knowing you have aids, i would hope there is a law that can help the other person who contracted it, that is a form of murder. If you think about it. the government is right!

a million. Nevada Brothels do no longer make a great sort of money for the state. They make a relative lot of money for the small rural counties that should in any different case survive on the sales tax generated by making use of the community gas station. 2. the user-friendly reason they do no longer seem to be criminal someplace else is with the aid of fact the legislatures of the 40 9 states have voted that way. in case you disagree, run for place of work on that platform. perchance somebody will vote for you.

I'm guessing it's mostly because of religious reasons. But you're right...I forget which country it is, maybe the Netherlands, but they have legal prostitution there and everything usually runs pretty smoothly.

Once a month is not enough and it takes 2 or 3 months before HIV shows up in a blood test. How many people could be infected in the meantime.

The USA was based on Christianity and somehow people's religious beliefs get into the politics of the country. Doesn't seem right to me, but that is how it is.

After careful pondering of this question, I must say it is because if it were made legal, then lawmakers would have no crime to commit and no fun committing it.

i agree that prostitution should be legal, however it is my understanding that it is illegal because it is viewed as "immoral".
