Organised noise is a useful suggestion - but it could be then merely the repetitive "bang" of a mechanical hammer (which is what a lot of stuff people call music now, sounds to me). I'd rather suggest music is sound with form and structure, constituted by rhythm and tone, within a particular cultural tradition or framework. A listener's engagement with any music depends on the variation within the piece, and compared with the cultural framework established in the listener's mind. Consider - there can be no "surprise" element without some established expectation. So it's people who know and love music like Mozart or Beethoven who often appreciate Stravinsky and other moderns most. It could also be why people who really know music find so much modern "pop" (though not all) infinitely boring, simplistic, repititive and unimaginative.

well, i don't want to get into deep with this question, but the fact that u had to asked, i'll give my opinion.
music dear is not only pleasant it's life, it's melodiously soothing, and tell stories in a way that put people at ease, no matter what their situations may be.it's passion, envy, cries, tears, laughter, hurts and anything and everything you can think of, mixed with the sounds of amazing instruments blending in to polish the story and make it as beautiful as possible and puts you in place where you longed to go, or you've been and experienced... just the instrument itself tells the story, then add the vocals of an amazing vocalist to demonstrate what the instrument are implying is absolutely heaven. life it self is music.
as far as noise goes, a kid screamming on top of his lungs for no reason just to piss people off is noise, construction site can be noisy, but it's all how u interprete it,and how clever ur mind adjust to it, u can also turn it into music, loud music, but still music.in a way the difference is how u see it, not societies' definition of the words.

music has the effect of calmin our tensed nerves when in a jumbled up state while noise has the reverse effect. Also music when put on a loud volume can become noise, thts a totally different matter. but jokes apart music is when something is soothing and noise is something which irritates and disturbs our mental state

If you're really going to define something, you must disallow for individual taste, preference or experience. Without being too philoshophical, the bottom line is that slience is put to intentional use in music. Noise followed by silence isn' t noise anymore - it's over. So music is not organized SOUND, it's organized SILENCE.

sound is made up of different harmonics and waveforms.....so a sound can have same harmonics but different waveforms......what comes to mind is The Piano and The Guitar...the waveforms are the same but their Harmonics are different....which is why they sound different........all music is on a personal level.....saying that we like a genre of music is another way of saying we are able to take the Harmonics and Waveforms of sound and organize them in such a way in the Brain(I don`t what side of the brain is responsible for it) that it`s pleasing to the ear......so to one person Rock is music to someone else it`s noise...... likewise some could hear a crashing window and call it a musical note while someone else would call it noise....so in essence there is no such thing as noise just sounds that your brain can and cannot interpret....
