Do not give kittens cows milk!!! It can cause serious digestive problems, the least of which is diarrhea. If their eyes are open and they have teeth then feed them canned kitten food with a little dry kitten food. Soften the dry food with the canned and water.
If they are to young to be eating solid food then you need to buy KMR feline milk. You can find it at any pet store, some Walmarts even carry it. You will also need to buy a special kitten bottle. If they still need to be fed, you will need to bottle feed them every 2 to 4 hours. Warm the bottles just like you would with an infant. You will also need to stimulate them to urinate and defecate by wetting a cotton ball with warm water and gently rubbing their genitals and anus. Young kittens do not have the ability to go to the bathroom on their own. Failure to stimulate them will result in serious medical complications.

Are their eyes open, do they have teeth yet?
If so they need to be fed small amounts three to four times a day and have access to fresh water at all times. If they are eating enough their stomachs will be rounded and their overall look will be healthy.
Don't leave the food down all the time until you know that they are eating properly and, if they are very young, you may have to soften the food with warm water, not milk. Milk is hard for kittens to digest.
Lots of luck and good for you taking in strays! Don't forget that sometimes strays can be carrying different diseases though. If you have other animals you should keep the kittens isolated from them until they have been vet checked.

My daughter recently brought home a kitten a co-worker had found. Your question makes me want to ask you more questions before I answer, but I will try to make some suggestions. If the kittens are over 6 weeks old, they should be on kitten food. If under 6 weeks, they should be on kitten formula. The way I judged the kitten my daughter brought home is how well he slept, played. . . etc.

Observe how they're taking the food you're giving them.....are they having difficulty chewing it, or are they chewing fine? If they seem to be having difficulty chewing up the food (taking a long time to swallow or simply swallowing the food pieces whole without chewing), the food may be too hard for them. In which case, you might want to make the food into a mash by soaking it in some warm boiled water.
Because they're still kittens, you can let them eat till they get their fill at meal times. Kittens need to be fed every 4-5 hours, depending on their age. To get a rough estimate of how many weeks they are, bring them to the vet and he/ she will be able to tell you. You'll need to get them checked for worms, mites, general health, and vaccinated if you intend to keep them anyhow.
Good luck.

if they are not pooping, you may not be stimulating them enough, rubbing thier little bellies with a warm cloth, usually works. this is a pretty good sign of enough food. most baby kittens need 2-3 ounces of food every 8 hours,i know because i found a kitten when i was full time employed & had to be there for him, actually more than necessary!

if they are only eating a little try putting a little wet can food down with the crunchy stuff.most all cat love this...but remember to put plenty of crunchy food down...if the kittens are bigger then your hand then they can be anywhere from 3-10 weeks old. if they are smaller then your hand they may be very young and still need milk,so you may have to hand feed them.i would take them to the vet to have them checked for worms if they still don't eat enough after you give them the wet food.good luck and please let me know how it turns out.

Cats are strange eaters. I have one cat that eats anything in sight and he is a bit over weight. One of my other cats, will only eat a couple bites when I put his canned food down, but he eats a lot of dry food and does not like people food. This cat is perfect weight.
Keep dry food available to them 24 hours a day along with fresh water every day. Give them one small can of cat food twice a day, split between them. If they are not eating it all by the next feeding, cut it down to one small can per day split between them. Keep in mind sometimes kittens can look underweight but in reality, it's just that their frames are getting longer and somewhat stretching their tummies out along with it, causing them to look a bit underweight. If this does not change as the rest of their body catches up with their frames, then take them to a vet and have them checked over.
