You don't like the same food your parents do, you don't like the same music, why do you blindly accept their religious views?
If you do not do your own investigation then it is only a superstition and "your" beliefs are based only on the place of your birth.

Perhaps I overstated, my question should have been, "Why are so many of the main spokespersons of Christianity so hateful?"
Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson just to name two.
I seleceted christians because most of the posts by Muslims, Jews and Buddhists are well worded questions, not hateful accusations.

Because to some christians, they are afraid if they look into other ideas that they might discover that they are wrong or need to change. It is far easier to for some to just follow the cultural norm, follow what everybody else is doing instead of discovering real truth on their own. There is a difference between feeling something is true and knowing 100% without a shadow of a doubt it is true. by following christianity blindly without investigating they don't have to deal with family members or friends being upset or stirred up. People are afraid of what they do not understand, like how many christians say pagans worship satan, when in fact they do not. I have known christians who won't even remotely associate with "non-believers" when in their scriptures it says for them to make disciples and tell everyone about Jesus; but conversation goes both ways; so heaven forbid for a "non-believer" to question or say something back-that is where in some instances the hate and narrow-mindededness comes in.

I wonder the same thing. I don't know why these people are all being angry and mean to you--you are only asking a very simple question. The fact that they refuse to consider other ideas is one of the very basic principles that their parents instilled in them--it's a big reason Christianity is so widespread. Let us not forget the fact that Christianity was beaten into people lo those many years ago. If these peoples' relatives were not forced to be Christians, what would they be today?? Christians are taught from an early age that theirs is the only way, then they are scared into believing because of this whole "going to hell" thing. Whether Christianity is right or wrong, I don't see what the harm would be in learning about other religions, or at least exploring them enough to be certain of one's own beliefs. I am glad that I did it, and I would encourage everyone to do the same. I think this is a great question--and the answers you are getting from some of these people simply proves your point.

I agree, people need to draw there own conclusion or what you just said( do a investigation), before blindly joining some body's religion.
Christians are hateful because they don't respect other people point of view about what the truth is , after all that the whole point of this superstition religion to find out what the truth is, sadly they don't except others who believe differently.
Christians are narrow minded because they are so stuck on there religion , and or brain washed in to thinking that there religion is right and every body else is wrong that they don't care to reason with other about what they believe.
basically Christians are nothing but brain wash idiot who cant think for themselves

You're asking two questions, here.
Your first one is "Why are Christians narrow minded?"
Your second one is "Why don't Christians investigate their beliefs when they become adults, instead of blindly accepting what their mummies and daddies taught them?"
Two questions. And maybe I'm just a bit crabby tonight, so if I am I apologize, but it seems to be that if you are accusing others of not thinking clearly, you should be careful to think clearly yourself.
As for your first question, which seems a bit more comprehensive to me, I think the question is really a bit more universal than just Christians. I think most folks do the same thing their parents did, without analyzing things.
But it's these folks you'll typically notice doing things half-heartedly, especially things that would require your whole heart (like religion. It sticks out like a sore thumb here.)
I know lots of moderately religious folks (attend church on the holidays, etc. but that's it) who do that because that's what their parents did. You know, they wouldn't change a thing, but they don't really know why. And plenty of atheists/agnostics.
A similarly wrong problem is to revolt against your parents beliefs because they acted poorly. I know a guy (cool guy.) whose parents were (at least, said they were) christians, and were so restricting that he revolted, is a confessing atheist, and struggling for direction in life.
Why is he struggling for direction? Because he's an atheist? No, I think alot of atheists have found direction (the wrong direction, I would argue, but that's a different question.). He's floundering because his belief system is based on Mommy & daddy did: x" Whether he agrees or revolts, its the same issue.
Augustine said Don't judge a religion by it's followers. They might be liars. Judge it by it's prophets/founders.
My .02.
BTW: I agree COMPLETELY that a person CANNOT be a Christian until he's really analyzed it, and believes it because (s)he believes it.

No, the call for proof as in scientific proof negates anything that cannot be repeated as per the scientific method which negates any miracles and anything for which observation would be impossible such as creation. If the world arrived only by natural means then everything is relegated to the combination of chemicals within the human mind. Things like love, and fidelity are simply chemical properties and nothing more. What more is there? Things like imagination and dreams are the same. That is why Christians can call atheists narrow minded, because if the world arrived by the means they say then the human mind is narrow.

Christians can be narrow minded when they are right. Why would I consider something wrong when I am letting God direct my life?
You are right, my mom eats liver, I hate it. Wouldn't touch it, but, by the time I was 21 I started investigating my mothers beliefs, thinking she was wrong on a lot of stuff. Well, guess what? She wasn't. Basically she was right. Your mother may not eat exactly the same things you do, but as long as she has taught you HEALTHY eating habits you'll live. Get what I'm saying? The Bible has basic morals and commandments that do not change. For any religion, or any generation. Society changes, men can rewrite their "church or religious rules" but God doesn't. He said it, He meant it, and won't change it. What ever you believe, make sure it lines up with the Word of God. That is what you will be judged by one day.

That's an unfounded assumption on your part, that we all learned our religious beliefs from our parents. All of us didn't, I can assure you. There has always been a sizable chunk of Christians who don't have a family background in church. I was one of those, in fact. Many of us do our own investigation, and eventually come to the principled conclusion that Christianity is true. Not because we haven't examined the beliefs, but because we HAVE examined them. But I do agree with you- an unexamined life is subject to all kinds of error, if people don't make the effort to think. It's my opinion that if everyone were a truly logical and open-minded thinker, then everybody would soon become a Christian.

I'm sorry, but before I go any further I have to say I am not a Christian. Your question just makes you as narrow minded as the ones you judge. Not all Christians are narrow minded, hateful, or blind followers. Your own refusal to let people be what they are, and insisting that they are wrong shows your own hatred. Whatever you believe in, I'm sure it doesn't include cramming your religion down everyone's throat and ridiculing those who do not choose as you do. Sweeping generalizations and detest for those who are different are the very qualities that you loath, and yet they are the qualities that are seen in your question.

Do you mean 'hateful' as in how your own question is worded?
I agree--Christians should NOT be 'hateful'. However, Christians are people, and as in most groups of people, there will be some 'rotten apples' in the bunch, and this includes main spokespeople.
BTW, for every one 'disagreeable' post from a Christian on this board, it seems to me there have been far more such posts from anti-Christians.

Why do you paint all Christians with this ignorant stereotype?
I've spent my entire life as a skeptic. ALWAYS considering other ideas. ALWAYS questioning what other people attempt to feed me. ALWAYS investigating and researching every idea that I've been told. I even do this with God and His bible! He WANTS us to question. He WANTS us to be educated. He WANTS us to think for ourselves. He wants us to know the truth and not to accept such weighty concepts at face value simply because someone spoonfed it to us. Anyone who thinks that God hates knowledge is a fool. Seems like you've seen too many movies like Stargate and can't get your own mind past a tyrannical bully.
Get out more. Try hanging out with educated Christians and really give a listen to what they have to say.
