you just dont know. i miss the marshmallow roasts and the weinie roasts. i miss rummaging through the woods trying to find the straightest stick that i could that wasnt from a pine tree for my marshmallows and weinies. i miss running through the woods with my brother, not caring whether i got bit by a snake or ran into spider webs. i miss digging up worms and catching grasshoppers and crickets. i miss hearing the fish hit the water right by the tent cuz it was so close to the water that you could smell it. i miss running around barefooted and when i would step on a stick, it wouldnt even phase me. i miss getting in trouble cuz i would take the lamp and sneak out of the tent and fish until the sun came up. i remember having about 3 tubes of superglue and all the beer bottles, i would collect the cap and glue them to the chair and sit in it and say that i was the queen of beers. i even miss being so bored that i would sit by the fire, just watching all the beer cans melt away. (thats how i feel now......my life is just melting away too fast) i would give almost anything to go back. i didnt realize what i had til it was gone. now i have a city boy for a husband and a kid, so i can pretty much kiss those days goodbye. (im getting depressed so i gotta go)

Oh my gosh!!! I so miss those days, I have not gone camping since I was eight. My family use to go every summer to this place called Hat Creek. It was so beautiful, and there were so many animals around. I only saw deer a stampede even. But other family members would see foxes and bears and snakes. The best part of it was being together with my family my brothers and cousins and myself would go hiking and fishing.
I felt safe and I felt like I really got away it was a real vacation.. Waking up in the morning smelling breakfast and starting off the day with all my family gathered at the table. I can even remember the drive there and the music we would listen to on the way up. Such a great memory, thank you for helping me reflect back on such a great time in my life!

Yeah...life seemed much less complicated...
I miss collecting the pine cones from under the pine trees. I miss riding in the back of the pickup camper and falling asleep listening to the sound of the motor humming down the highway. I miss cranking open the side windows of the camper to let fresh air in and how good it felt to cool off. I miss setting up the tent and making sure it was in the very best spot possible with no bad lumps on the ground. I miss twisting a coat hanger open to use it for roasting marshmallows. I miss watching my fishing pole bobber all of a sudden disappear underwater, letting me know I had a fish on my line. I could go on and on...
Technology has took us over and now we're just too busy...sigh.

I'm happy you have those good memories, we only had pop on the weekends and it was the big bottle to split among 7 people.
I remember some unpleasant things about camping, with 5 kids in the back of a truck topper, we stayed over night up north of hart Michigan, the freaking mosquitoes biting all night, just too poor to enjoy proper camping.
But any way when you want to go back, it's there in your memory.

We go every single summer, sleep on the ground in a HOT tent, Cook outside, uuuummmmm....the smell of fresh coffee waking you up first thing in the morning when the sky is still dark and there is dew on the ground, and a raccoon sneaks by making you pee your pants. I love camping and the camp fire late at night making smores and getting all sticky with the sand sticking to you because of the oooie gooie marshmallows, and the black ash smeared all over your face from the soot from the campfire. I love the sound of laughter coming from the other tents because they hear us and our arguing over who is going to kill the monster spider in the corner? I love the smell of our clothing and sleeping bags from camping, you can't buy that in a bottle! I love soggy sandwiches that sat in the cooler too long, even soggy they taste so good, how about breakfast? Never tasted so good....blueberry pancakes from fresh picked blueberries, and the smell of crispy bacon, the whole campground gets a whiff and everyone starts to wake up, it's truly magical! I love camping!!!!!

My dad had a blue Ford w/ a white camper for years we went fishing, swimming in the lake, fetching sticks to burn hot dogs over a camp fire. I love those memories like that too.
Make new traditions. You'll miss those too as life continues to change -- till you're too old to do anything else but reminisce.

Yep, I sure do!
Where did you grow up doing this at?
My grandparents, on one side, grew up along an old river in the backward ozark country. Grampa used to "noodle" in the caves under the water. He taught my cousin and I how to set limb lines and trot lines in the old river, when we were WAY young. My mom, granny, my only cousin and I would camp along that river for 2 weeks each summer. Our dads and grampa would come stay with us on the weekend.
We camped just like you described. My cousin and I would catch our own bait, fish, run lines, swim, gather wood, clean fish and enjoy life.
It was so special. I could go on and on. Those trips helped shape me in to the man I am today.
I don't know about you, but it brought my family so close together.

I don't, but my husband REALLY misses it! We took our 3 boys camping last month and got in a big argument over taking a camp stove! I wanted the stove, he did not! He won but i would not cook so it actually turned out pretty good for me! He also says ppl with RVs are sissys..."Why leave home if your bringing the AC and TV with you" lol. The kids and dog had a great time. Cooking over the camp fire, s'mores, tent sleeping (no air bed as I wanted) getting up early and going fishing. I think next time its "male bonding" and i'll stay home with a good book! :)

Yeah, me too. Some of my happiest days were camping as a kid. We had a tent and a Coleman stove. I would like to try it again but would need a more comfortable sleeping arrangement. (and perhaps a Dunkin Donuts)
Thanks for the idea. I think I will try it once this summer.
