Alcohol dulls your senses and causes you to be less sensitive to hearing that "still small voice" of the Spirit of God. Several verses in the Bible specifically prohibit the consumption of strong drinks. There are instances, however, where some verses indicate that drinking wine is OK. Critics of the Bible may use this as an example in saying that the Bible contradicts itself, while others may say that the key factor is whether the wine is fermented (alcoholic), or non-fermented (like grape juice). Honestly, I myself do not know if ancient Christians drank alcohol or not.

Nevertheless, a simple guide in making this decision would be to ask yourself if drinking alcohol will bring you closer to God, or if it will make you more susceptible to falling into Satan's temptations.

Alcohol is often a primary cause of deadly car accidents, ungodly behavior, fornication, adultery, domestic abuse, murders, and birth defects or miscarriages.

Many will say that it's OK to drink when you just want to have a good time, but that you should never get drunk. Where do you draw the line? Satan always tries to blur the lines between sin and morality. Some people can get addicted to alcohol after just one drink, and having that first drink with a group of friends can potentially lead to a life of alcoholism and misery. It is always better to stay on the side of caution. It is not necessary to have alcohol in order to have fun, either.

An old saying I read many years ago comes to mind: "What is right is not always popular. What is popular is not always right."

That's a very general question and you will get varing answers even from a lot of Christians. My take on what the scriptures say is it is clearly wrong to be drunk. Period. That's really all it says in regards to drinking alcohol in my opinion.

Eph 5:15-18
15Be very careful, then, how you live-- not as unwise but as wise,
16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
(NIV)

And in response to avery_s: Jesus did not drink ever. He turned water into wine but no where in the Bible will it say that Jesus actually drank. He was perfect. We are not. The wine it refers to in the last supper was unfirmented grape juice if you study it.

Paul actually recommended to drink a little alcohol. Alcohol is not itself a sin and does have some health benefits if drank in small amounts. Drunkenness is very much a sin. Many people probably would be better off avoiding alcohol completely, especially with the very unhealthy attitudes our society (here in the US, at least, can't speak for every country) has toward drinking. Many sects of Christianity, especially Protestant ones, preach against alcohol, but teaching that drinking alcohol is wrong cannot be found anywhere in the Bible. If alcohol is impairing your judgment in any way, you're probably drinking too much. If you're doing things while drinking you wouldn't do otherwise, you've definitely drank too much.

"Christianity" does not have a monolithic unified answer on the subject. Some say yes, and have a few verses to substantiate their views.

Others say no, and have verses to substantiate their views.

I say "Drinking alchohol in a controlled manner is not prohibited in scripture. Alchoholism is."

First, one must realize that most of the arguments about how Jesus (yeshua) made grape juice are nonsense.
For one, there is a different greek word for juice, which didn't last long.It was not used in this passage.
Two, the passage clearly shows that the guests thought of the wine Jesus made as quite old (making it alchoholic!)

Importantly, no one figured out a way to keep juice from fermenting until very recently. I think it was Welch's...Anyway. Not even possible until well after the Bible was written.

It's important not to frame the question in a 21st century framework, when the scriptures were given in a 20th century framework.

When it comes to this question, you really have to be careful to remember that the Bible was not written in plain english as we know it. therefore, in the original languages..especially the Greek...they had multiple words for which we only have one. Case in point, if you do a study in any good concordance of the multiple times you run into the word, "wine" in the bible...the actual greek translations will vary from actual grape juice, fermented grape juice. The only way to know in the varying text which is which is to look at the actual translation. After doing a study on this myself, I found that it is indeed not wise to drink. In the cases where it spoke of Jesus endorsing wine, it was actually unfermented grape juice.

Solomon says to stay away from wine and other strong drinks. Paul told Timothy to drink a little wine for medicinal purposes.
Worldly temperance says moderation in all things but true biblical temperance is moderation in the things which are good for you and abstinence of the things that are not good for you.
Having a drink is not a sin but drunkenness is.
Keep in mind that our body is the temple of the Lord. You are not your own but where bought with great price. So live your life in a manner that glorifies God, even in your body and what you eat or drink. This is not a matter of salvation but an evidence of God 's sanctifying and purifying you, making you ready to live eternally with Him.
By the way there probably won't be any alcohol in heaven!

Being a christian and knowing the Bible pretty well I can honestly say that Drinking Alcohol in small doses is not wrong. But if you are drinking to get drunk, then yes it is wrong.God does not want us getting drunk because we open ourselves up to do things we wouldn't normally do when we were sober.God wants us to be able to think straight and make good decisions.True Christians are led by the spirit, we can't allow the sin of drunkenness to cloud the spirits leading. No
Timothy 5:22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. 23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
The bible is very clear not to be a drunker, and it is clear for you to be sober, especially in the times of the end.

Study ten commandments then you will know law, just remember a person that won't take care of there children are worse than a non-believer. God Bless

No, Jesus went to a party where there was music and dancing, and wine. and when they ran out, he turned water into wine so people could continue drinking. Despite what some preachers(do as I say, not as I do types)say, Jesus was a person who thought people should enjoy things.
