One of our 3 dogs actually goes into major panic attacks during thunder storms. He was a stray horribly abused when we got him and he's about 3 years old. Rain, Thunder, Lightning all set him off. He hyperventilates, shakes violently, pants loudly, whines etc. it takes us holding him and comforting him through the duration of the storm to show him he's OK and nothing will happen to him. Recently I purchased a product for children called Calming Forte that allows them to relax, calm down from a panic attack and help them sleep if they are unable to sleep. Giving our dog 3 of these homeopathic pills worked for a time. More recently I found a new product just for dogs called Home Alone & Travel Comfort Calm Doggie-Bites. You give the dog the dosage required according to it's weight. Takes about 30 min's to fully take affect but once it does you have a calmer dog. Oh he will still shiver some and whine a bit but nothing at all like he did prior to being given the product.
It really breaks my heart seeing an animal so scared that it hyperventelates as ours does.
We have two other dogs, a 10 yr old silky female and a 4 yr old border collie mix. The silky doesn't fully care, though she will go under our bed or curl up beside me to seek comfort, the border collie will usually either sleep through it or fidget about a bit till we let her know everything really was going to be ok.

Usually they try to be anywhere i am, or somewhere they re not alone. They re terrified of the sound of rain or thunder, and i know when its gonna rain or not because they start acting weird beforehand.
My elder dog, Sandy, cowers under a bed or below a chair and quivers like someones about to kill her. Another, Topaz, doesn't necessarily like it either, but she's not as bad. Usually she just lies under a chair or follows me around until it's all over. But then there's Woody. He's not at all affected by the weather. He just sits there all innocent waiting to be petted or to get a treat. Or he just sleeps through the whole thing.
I read up on it. Animals have an instinct to get away from natural disasters, even if it's a little bit of rain. It's how they've kept their species around for so long. That's how most of the animals during the tsumani knew to get to high ground before anything happened. Kind of wierd, but still. The animals that don't go nuts just know they're safe where they are, and don't fret knowing it's about to rain.

My dog has to be sedated if it's a fierce thunderstorm. He starts trembling uncontrollably, panting as if he'll hyperventilate, darting around the house frantically, and will try to hide under the carpet or linoleum if he could. It's very sad to watch. I really hate to sedate him with a "doggy downer", but the alternative is so much worse.

I have 3 dogs and neither of them even seem to notice thunderstorms. My one dog will even stay outside unless it starts raining real hard and then she comes in.

My dog has no problem with it. My sister's dog however tries to hide behind the toilet - but she is large so she gets only her head and a bit of front legs behind it, then she whimpers and howls like crazy until the storm and accompanying thunder is over.

They don't have any strange reactions to the storm. They just refuse to go out in the rain to take a potty break instead of doing on the carpet.

goes absolutely crazy!
i can't do a thing to stop him!
I've seriously condisdered asking the vet about tranquilizers.
He cries/whimpers constantly in a thunderstorm, he runs in circles around the house, he pants like mad, and he gets up in your face and licks you all crazy.
he shakes and i worry about him having a heart attack!
for goodness sakes!
