Advantage may work nicely, but for your stubborn case of fleas, look into Frontline. (The medicine formula you put onto thier backs!) THe spray, while effective for adult fleas, will not kill eggs or young. Shaving the little guy will help im relax, and the fur will grow back quickly as the winter approaches. DON'T shave the tip of his tail... it is the slowest growing part of your puppy pal. Bathe him before you give him frontline. If you do this and you find that he is still being bitten... look at the bedding. Have you changed it? Wash pillows and other soft surfaces in the household. Good luck!

Alright what you want to do first of all since its summer is you want to spray your lawn and everything outside cause right now fleas are more active and their eggs hatch faster. Also get your dogs fur trimmed. Once that is done you want to get advantage plus, runs about $50 and you can find it at any pet store. A box should last you 3 months, 1 tube a month. You can either put half the tube on its neck and the other half by its tail or you can put the whole thing on the neck or on the back of the tail (fleas are most active around there). That should take care of your problem.

Okay. When we bred dogs, we used a brand called Adams. Their powders will kill the fleas in your carpet or at least ruin their reproduction system, so they can't lay more eggs. The sprays really work, be it for cat, dog, puppy or kitten. And best of all, it doesn't hurt them if it is swallowed or touches sensitive skin, though it tastes horrible.
If you really want to get rid of ALL of your dog's fleas, you might have to shave it or cut it's fur enough to bathe it or spray it down to get rid of any remaining fleas and eggs (which hatch with vibrations). But if you insist on not shaving him, then you'll have to bathe him and really work in the shampoo many times, and spray him thoroughly afterwards just in case. If you try the floor powder, vacuum first, so the eggs hatch and you can just simply kill them. Make sure you do every room in the house that has carpet, and maybe even the furniture if you need to. Wash the cloth the dog was on or near.
Spraying your yard is a very good idea if you want the problem completely gone. You wouldn't want your dog to keep bringing those horrible little bloodsuckers inside just so you could get rid of them again.
Does your dog constantly groom himself? Well, eating those insects might have given him worms. I know it sounds gross, but check his poop for little rice-like creatures that move around. Don't touch it or any thing, but just look. If so, you'll have to give him medicine for that too. Like the Adams, it can be found at any local pet store. It might cost a bit more than hoped, but I think it's worth it to be free of those fleas.

Check with your vet. They have flea treatments that are very effective.
It's a one time application that's applied directly to one spot on their skin. Between the shoulder blades.
It kills all the fleas within a day, and keeps them bug-free for a month or more.
If there's a serious flea problem in your area, you may need to do this for the warm-weather months. Winter-time should find little, if any, problem.
I strongly advise you NOT use the applications in the store! Many animals are fine after their use, but many have also died from them. Not so with the ones that the vet will give you. Those have been proven to be very safe.

Use the new spot-on-skin REVOLUTION. I have been breeding dogs for 38 years, and have never found anything anywhere near as good. It also is a heartworm preventative, and prevents many other parasite born diseases.
Then sprinkle a pound of ( I used an old spaghetti strainer) something like SEVEN on the lawn, and hose it in. d Don't allow dog on lawn until it has dried once.
You can get the lawn powder at your garden center, hardware, or walmart for about $7 per pound bag.

The best place to get flea treatments is at your vet. You won't have to pay for a visit to the clinic - simply go in and ask to speak to someone about flea treatments. 2 good products are Revolution and Advantage - I have used both in the past with success. You definitely get what you pay for in this area - if you purchase low-quality, low-priced products at an un-knowledgeable outlet (pet stores, etc.) you cannot be guaranteed the safety and quality that you can be guaranteed at your vet's.
These products will guarantee you success, and save your poor dog the agony of scratching all the time.
Shaving won't help, by the way ...

Check with your veterinarian for the correct dosage of Vitamin B for a pom. I had a cocker that was infested with fleas when i inherited her and I had to bath her (without soap) daily until the Vitamin B took effect. He'll have to build up a residual, but keep him on it daily, even after the fleas disappear. Shaving may be necessary to eliminate the eggs or nits.

Well, with my pommies I cut them real short at the beginning of the summer. They'll love you for it, trust me! Don't worry, his full coat will be back by Fall! After I do that I get BioSpot. I find it works sooooo much better than anything from the vet (you get this at PetsMart, Petco, etc) and it's alot cheaper!

The best stuff to get for your dog is Advantage. You would either have to buy it from your local vet or petmeds.com. It's actually the best stuff, better than the store bought stuff.
