To me it is. In no way does a Gun "protect you". It's not a sheild, it's a weapon. If you love one another, you wouldn't carry a weapon to injure or possibly kill anyone.

Ummm....If you want to know if it's ok for you to carry a gun by christians for self defense, shouldn't you be worried about your own mental health and level of prejudice against other people rather than if it would be against the church?

Seriously. That's creepy.

But if you saw it in a movie or in a magazine or something, then I guess I'll answer you. I don't think anyone carrying a gun around christians for self protection is against the church. It's not against anyone, since anyone doin' that would be crazy! Nuts! Wacko!

Would you trust someone like that?

Besides, speaking as a christian myself, I know that any devoted, sane, and righful christian wouldn't do anything to harm anyone. Unless they "Got a message from god" or something. Thankfully, I'm not that devoted, so I don't get all wierd like that. There's only one thing I can say about god and his doings: huh? Seriously, I'm confused. Not in a bad way, Just confused about...you know...well, stuff he does and who he is. Basically the following:
Who?
What?
When?
Where?
Why?
That's all I got to say about that.
'Nuff said.
Th-th-th-th-that's all, foks!
Adios.
Um...yeah.

When the guy burst into the church in Texas and began shooting people it certainly might have stopped him sooner if people had been able to return fire.

I suppose the command that would be used as proof that they are supposed to carry guns to church would be:
Luke 22:36 Then He said to them, But now, everyone who has a wallet should take it and his money: and he that has no sword, he should even sell his clothes to buy one.

So any church that would not permit carrying weapons is actually in direct violation of Scripture.

My answer to the question would be no. what has the church got to do with it?

It is a life choice to Carry or not carry, responsibility to or not to. I am a Daughter of the American Revolution and I am thankful my ansestors faught for our freedom (once again FREEDOM) Praise God there are men brave enough to train and be there for us in time of need. Wars and Weapons Happen, it's part of life.

If your kid was sick, would you take him to the doc or just pray and leave it at that?

Back in the day, parents taught their kids how to shoot, protect themselves from hostiles and bring home kill for dinner.

Way back, the Israelites had to strengthen them selves, train and fight against the Pharaoh to leave and be free.

I have been held up at gun point, it was no fun. However, I believe in the 10 commandments and the 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms. Take away the right to bear arms and now we are controlled by a bunch of Nazis! Think about it, Hitler took all the guns, then all their rights, then tried to kill them all! Call me a hypocrite if you want, it doesn't bother me, I just try my best.

Due to the growing level of violence in our world and the extolment of peace in Scripture, there is much debate among Christians regarding whether it is appropriate for a Christian to own weapons. However, a comprehensive look at the Bible offers insight regarding historic practices that inform this issue today.

We have the example of the apostles, who owned weapons. On the night Jesus was betrayed, He asked His followers to bring swords. They had two, which Jesus claimed was enough (Luke 22:37-39). As Jesus was being arrested, Peter sliced off the ear of one of the servants of the high priest (John 18:10). Jesus healed the man instantly (Luke 22:51) and commanded Peter to put away his weapon (John 18:11). Peter’s ownership of a sword was not condemned, only his particular use of it.

On another occasion, soldiers came to be baptized by John the Baptist. When asked what to do to live for God, John told them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages” (Luke 3:14). John stopped short of telling them to lay down their weapons.

And then there is David, who praised God “who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1). The Old Testament contains many other examples of godly men who owned and used weapons, usually in the context of warfare.

The Bible never forbids a Christian from owning a weapon, but it does offer some principles to consider. First, Christians are called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:10). A Christian considering the purchase of a weapon should prayerfully consider if doing so would aid in peace-making.

Second, a Christian should only own a weapon for a purpose that would honor God (1 Corinthians 10:23). Using a weapon for hunting, military or law enforcement duty, or self-defense may honor God. Still, a person should reflect on his or her motives for owning a particular weapon.

Third, a Christian should abide by local laws, including gun laws. Romans 13 is clear that governing authorities are from God and are to be obeyed. Further, we are to pray on behalf of governing leaders who oversee our communities and nation (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

Ultimately, there is nothing sinful about owning a gun or other weapon. A weapon can be useful and even necessary in some contexts; at the same time, Christians should carefully consider their motive and purpose in owning a weapon, and local ordinances should be followed.

A Christian who carries a gun for self-defense is a hypocrite. He believes that God will protect him from harm, yet the fact that he carries a weapon shows that he doesn't really believe it. The same is true for those Christians who learn martial arts for self-defense. They preach one thing, yet believe another...or perhaps they don't believe it at all. A Christian knows that, if someone assaults him, breaks into his house, or kidnaps his child, God is not going to lift a finger to help him, and he will have to help himself. That is why it is called SELF-defense and not GOD-defense--because God doesn't even enter the picture.

Passage Matthew 21:12:

Jesus at the Temple
12Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.

So can you tell me that Christ never raised His hand in defense.

Passage Luke 22:36:

36He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

This is pretty clear that we should be ready to defend ourselves.

Carrying a gun doesn't mean that you use it. Having a gun can be a deterant to other people. Also, you don't have to kill someone with a gun. Wounding someone to save yourself isn't a sin.
