I would say that John is a Hedonist; live for today, do whatever you want, if it feels good do it, and forget about tomorrow and the consequences that come with it. He also thinks that if there were no countries or religions that there would be no wars; what nonsense! It's those individuals who are power hungry, smart, ruthless, care nothing for the welfare of others, who do not believe in Heaven or hell, and become rulers of countries that cause wars because of their desire for more and more power.
Lets look at the history of the world and do a little critical thinking here!

Men are self destroying animals.. don't blame that on religion..
personally, i cannot imagine the violence and the crime rate if there isn't any religion... i mean like there's no standards in the society, no ties, no taboos... and its bad enough now..
then think of the suicide rates.. with no hopes for the future, no hope after the grave///... i can't imagine.
there is no peace in having nothing... people doesn't get along just because there is nothing to fight over with...
what keeps peace is love..ignorance doesn't help

Hey! I don't have to IMAGINE a place where there was "no religion too." History has provided us with many REAL LIFE EXAMPLES. The Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, North Korea, and North Vietnam all severely punished those with religious belief. Utopias they weren't.

Amazing song. One of the best writers with one of the all time best. If you are able to listen to The oldies station 103.3 there is going to be a tribute for him tomorrow between 6 and 7pm.

I think the point that the song relays is that without religion their would be a lot less fighting. Many many people have been killed because of religion

the devil's biggest and most successfgul lie is that there is no devil.
adopting john lennon's lyrics as your mantra may help "the world...be as one", but it will do you no good when you are standing in front of God, trying to explain why you ignored His truth.
