Yes you do. When you see them 30 years later and they are losers. The sweet memories of being young and in love stays with you forever, as do the songs you listened to together. But don't think just because you treasure those irreplaceable first love memories, that you want the person back.
Sometimes people let those memories ruin their current relationships, but that is just an excuse to day dream and not focus on the relationship you have.

The reason why you can't is because, perhaps, you don't date too much after you two broke up. Maybe if you do date perhaps your relationship was a long one, or more fullfilling then ones you've been in. Ot you haven't given yourself a chance to get over them for some reason. If you really want to forget this person get rid of all the things that remind you of them - that ticket stub from Disneyland, the dirty napkin they dropped on your plate that your kept, a picture of you and them, and even forget thier number unless your still friends. Nexy, stop compairing all the posble loves you meet to this one person. For example. don't judge your next date by weither or not she does that "thing" your old love did, or forget about her eyes not being the same shape. If you accept the person for who they are then you fall in love with them for who they are rather than what you want them to be. It's hard, but you can do it if you really want to.

It has been about 40 years. I haven't forgotten her but the pain is gone. I can remember tinges of pain 10 years later. each year got easier. It didn't keep me fom loving again and actually the women I married was the better choice. Time does heal the heart.

I never really did. I can remember everything that happened between us and I never want to forget it... But when you find your next true love... then you will start filling your mind with all the memories you have together... I think it just takes a lot of time!

No, I don't think you can get over it completely. That's the standard you compare each person you meet by.If another person that comes along is able to make that standard fail and seem unimportant, then and only then you'll be free to love again.

i think you will always love that person, it just eventually becomes a different type of love. eventually you will get over it. one thing you might be doing that is really hindering the process, is don't try and compare everyone you date to the person you loved because they are not that person. everyone is different. try new things and be open to what the person you are dating has to offer.

I would say..not totally. They can represent your "ideal" love. I still have my first love in the back of my mind, and I am pretty sure that I will always carry the memories I have of him in my heart.

You never get over it... If my first love came up to me tomorrow wanting to get together, I would drop everything in a heartbeat.
