Well im a guitar player!! and its so fun!!!!! The easiest way is to get a a guitar that is tuned perfectly and get a guitar cord poster ( you can get one at Walmart on the poster stand) and hang it on your wall and jus follow the fingering and start memorizing the cords. Then go to Guitar Center and buy u some easy music and work on it till you think its sound good then move to harder music and jus advance as you go!!! (Perfect Practice makes Perfect) :)

If you know someone that plays guitar they would probably be more than happy to help you learn how to play.
If that's not an option, a book that I began learning out of was "A Modern Approach To Classical Guitar" there are three books in this series, the first book gives the basics of the strings and how you would play using your fingers, finger picking. I thought that it was best to learn the classical guitar first and then try to play more modern music since the way the books are set up was just really helpful. I'm a music education major and found this to be one of the easier books to understand the material from.
You could also look up riffs or tabs online of songs that you would like to learn, this is harder since the riffs and tabs can be wrong, they're more than likely figured out by regular people who aren't necessarily musicans. They're also made up of chords and you could be playing the chords with the wrong fingers and would make it harder for you to move from one to the next. I've had my troubles with this, lol.
Good luck learning guitar!

First get a Mel Bay chord book and learn everything in it. Be sure that every note rings as it should. Then you may wish to get a subscription to some of the guitar magazines that provide transcriptions of songs and learn them. An instructor can help you but it's really up to you. Practice, practice, practice! Most of all, have fun and keep on picking.

Well I basically taught myself with the help of books and the web. First I focused on the scales and chords which I practiced for several hours every day. Then I work on theory and technique, again practicing for hours. It takes a lot of work but it's most definitly worth it. It helps if you have a friend who plays so they can keep you on track.

Pick up a book witha list of chords. (Guitar for Dummies is good). Then, get online and look up chords for songs you wanna learn, and learn them. Start slow, and practice.
