If you have an education (good paying job) you can afford housing, food and childcare and won't end up gov. supported.

I don't think it does equalize, but it can. Education can develop someone with so-so natural ability into a top notch professional.

It can also create a huge difference between two people with about the same talent. The one who diligently develops talent through education will pull ahead of his/her equal who doesn't.

By going to a school where one meets and becomes friends with people with great connections, that student will surpass in opportunities someone who doesn't have the same networking opportunities, but may learn as much.

As the old adage explains "Knowledge is power". An education knows no boundaries. It dismisses some of the biases and stereotypes in today's society. It doesn't matter your age, race, gender, upbringing or environment. You are equal to the person standing next to you who knows the same.
