There will always be soldiers stationed in Iraq. But the reduction will start by the end of next year to 2010 probably. Most of the terrorist are dead or being turned in by Iraqis the terrorist are losing worse now than before.

The war is going well - by the standards of all previous wars, this one has been an outstanding success.

There are those who point to the insurgency, and yes, the insurgency is a serious problem. But what they choose to ignore is that the insurgency is dieing out.

For example: it's funds have been choked off - those in the Islamic world who are financing them have been for the most part identified, the current crop of insurgents are dieing quicker then the insurgency can replace them, and due to the short life expectancy of insurgents and the lack of support amongst the general Iraqi population they are having a very difficult time recruiting people to their cause. That does not mean the insurgency will end tomorrow - suppressions of insurgencies take time, sometimes months, more often years.

As to the large global WoT - it is successful as well, according to recent reports... 40% of the jihadi movement is dead, and many more are imprisoned. As a result the recruitment for the jihadi movement has dwindled dangerously low for their side - those they do recruit are ill-trained and tend to get killed/captured quickly.

The real danger is on the homefront here in America - there are to many who are reliving the glory days of the New Left during the Vietnam era. Much like that time - many on the Left are no more than puppets to those we battle, easily manipulated (as illustrated by Colonel Bui Tin and General Giap during Vietnam, and now Al-Qaeda/insurgents as put forth in their communiques) - some accepting and embracing the manipulation of our enemies to spite an administration they hate, even at the detriment of the nation as a whole.

So in ending - support your brother, he and the rest of us are doing the job we enlisted to do, and doing it well. Wish for victory, not for the defeat of the US Armed Forces as a number here have done with the suggestions of an cowardly cut & run approach that'll be viewed as a victory for the Jihadis.

The war will last most likely for up to a few more years, probably around 2010, depending on what you define the war as. We will probably continue to keep troops in Iraq on bases indefinitely, like we do in Germany, as a good rally point for future conflicts in the middle east should they arise. However, the uprising in Iraq will continue until the greater conflicts between the Sunnis and the Shiis are resolved. However, just like in Rwanda, the only way to solve it is to let it run its course. It is brutal and bloody yes, but by interfering and picking sides, we will only antagonize both parties. While this may serve as a catalyst to help spark war and thus ease tensions in the future at a peace, it may or may not be the best course of action as a World Leader.

We wil have troops stationed there for a long time, even after we have stabilized the country, if that ever happens. We all are proud of your brother and are appreciative of his service. Bush is someone who either made a big mistake or meant do something wrong and make it look like a mistake. The facts and evidence are all there, you just have to look at it and pay attention. Don't listen to these numbskull traitors to this nation that just turn a blind eye to all the wrong this war has caused and this administration has done. Just keep your eyes on the truth and fight for change, only then will good Americans like your brother have the oppurtunity to the job they were meant to do, that is defend AMERICA.

My answer may not sound serious, but it really is. The war will last for as long as we (our leadership) can find a different word than 'war' to describe it. Right now it's war. But pressure is building to get out of there. So look to the day when we say that we installed democracy, we succeeded in our mission, and Iraq know has the challenge of controlling violent crime. We mainly have to give it a different name and for that name to sound convincing. To you and me though, the continued violence now will be indistinguishable from the violence next year and the next. Cheer up though, it can only get worse.

The war will continue for another 2-3 years
(unless Iran forces us to take military action against them)
But we will be in Iraq for at least 10-20.
Look at Germany, we have been there for over 60 years.

It will end when then United States withdraw and the confliction parties can have their civil war.The US intervention only delayed the inevitable-ie like the United States fought a civil war, Iraq needs to settle issues that have troubled the nation since the British drew the borders!

I think they U.S. will leave in two years. 2,500 is not that bad, with half being accidents (which means they could have died in peace time). More Americans die working on their lawn and garden each year and drown in the pool each year than have died in Iraq. About 50,000 Americans die in car accidents each year and 100,000 Americans die each year from medical mistakes and 1 million Africans die from malaria each year. The death count per 100,000 is far below the U.S. average. Now you should be more conserned if he wanted to be a New York taxi cab driver, an Alaskan crab fisherman or a late night clerk in a downtrodden part of town. Those are more hazzardess duties than being a U.S. soldier.

The war will continue until we win. Im surprised...u have a brother there, u should be supporting him, AND what hes doing! I understand its hard for our troops, and also hard on their families, however, they need to know they have the support of Americans back home. Also, Bush is the leader of our country, and deserves respect.

This invasion will last till Bush is out of office and doesn't need it to scare people into voting for him . They will leave the mess for someone else to clean up . The Republicans can then blame that person for not doing it right .
