I have a Philips TV/VCR combination, Model CCB092AT01 that is about six years old, and is working fine EXCEPT one night, I misplaced my remote, and was pushing buttons on the front of the TV (in the dark) to try and turn volume down. Somehow, the menu screen got dark--and all of the menu boxes and display lettering are black, so I can't read anything on the menu screens or change my VCR programs. I've tried pushing every button on my TV/VCR combo and on my remote, but can't figure out how to get the menu screen back to normal. I tried contacting Philips for technical support, but am getting the run around. I thought I might get faster assistance from someone out there! Thanks!

Seems like the memory chip one the TV chasis is out, typical for Phillips or Sylvania or Magnovox TVs. Was in repair business for many years, and, did not like to work on Combo products as they are very hard to work on since they use mutual power supplies and are hard to assemble and disassemble. Most shops usually charge extra for combo units. In the future stay with single units easier to service. Depending on the age of unit you may want to consider getting a newer unit with utdated picture clarity and features.

the only thing that comes to mind is if someone (tv tech) was familiar with phillips hidden service menu, and knew the options without seeing them, they could go in and reset the factory defaults, which will restore it. however, i am only familiar with rca,ge, and proscans factory menus. Sorry.

There may be a contrast/brightness knob that you accidentally hit. Look for that.
