K, my boyfriend's whole family is coming over our house tomorrow. 2 months ago, his brother repeated to his sister something that I said about her (it wasn't exactly nice). I haven't been in a room with either of them since...my boyfriend made up a lie to cover my ***, and try to make his sister not feel so bad. They will both be there tomorrow....If I get confronted...do I tell the truth and deal with her hating me or possible crying :( or keep up the lie that my boyfriend told (which could be kinda hard, I'm a horrible liar, I turn red and get VERY nervous). It's the first time we're having them all over since we moved in together, I don't want the day to be ruined...any advice would be nice. (sorry this is so long)

His brother got married and his sister started talking about my future wedding and how she would be in it (which she won't) and I said something along the lines of 'she invited herself into my wedding, and we're not even engaged, she's crazy' but a little less calm. And after a few drinks. eek

I guess you learned the hard way that you can't bad mouth family to family.

I don't like lying, so I can't tell you to keep it up, best to just say, "sorry for the misunderstanding" if she says anything. Then, keep your mouth shut around the brother!

Lies are a horrible thing because you need to make some more to cover up the old ones, until either your whole life has became a lie, or you are discovered. Find a good occasion to deal with your boyfriend's sister, be honest, and work it out, maybe apologizing will take a lot of courage, but you are healing a wound that could ruin your future life with your boyfrind.

Try to avoid the situation. If the subject comes up change it. If totally confronted keep with what your b/f said but make it brief. It is best to avoid confrontation. If his sister is persistent, take her to her to the side and explain that it was taken either out of context / at the time you said "whatever you said" was not really meant and your sorry. Just don't let it become a whole family situation. It may be best to try to clear the air if it comes up. If not let sleeping dogs lie.

If it comes up, just say that you are sorry you said something impulsively. It was a big mistake. That would be the truth. Tell her you are sorry if you hurt her feelings and that you hope you can start over and be friends.

And never, ever do that again.
