It is 3500 calories (look on any website; ask any expert). This is why they say to only lose 1-2 lbs per week. To find out how much you are burning per day multiply your weight by 12 (for low metabolism) or by 15 (for high metabolism). Eat that many calories per day to maintain weight. To lose weight eat less calories (usually 500) and add exercise. That's one pound per week. Remember to eat at least 1000-1200 calories. Otherwise your body thinks it's starving and starts to store the calories as fat- a reversal effect.

There are 3000 calories in a pound and this is what I learned in food and nutrition class. So to lose a pound burn 3000 calories. Or you may want to drop some water weight.

3,500 calories per pound. Walking at a fast pace burns off 5.6 calories per minute. So to lose 1 pound, you have to walk at a fast pace for 625 minutes or 10.4 hours. To burn off the calories in a carton of yogurt [8oz] with fruit on the bottom, you have to walk for 45 minutes at a fast pace.
I know this because I look things up and I read the health news and tips and tricks and so on. I've got a NY Times chart stuck to my refrigerator about the calories different types of excercise burn per minute.

Q. How many calories make 1 pound of weight?
About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.
If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.

well, according to the dietician i worked with in a clinic, you have to eat 3500 extra calories to gain a pound so i'm guessing you need to burn that many - over a period of time, of course - beyond what you usually burn OR eat that less over a period of time (like, eat 500 calories less a day or something) to lose a pound - or, best of all, combine exercise with healthy eating!
