I know where you are coming from. I had the same habit as you did. I would drink three to five sodas a day, even buying Super Big Gulps. My gut shows that big time.
I switched to juices, sugar free flavored water and tea…oh and plain water. You can try store brand fruit flavored carbonated water which is pretty good. Juices are great too even though they tend to be costly. Tea is the best drink to go with. If you have a sweet tooth like I do, add sweet & low. It is okay to use little sugar too if you prefere. Make the transition slowly.
Basically, wean out the sodas. Switch between the drinks and drink more of the less fattening drinks. You will then no longer have the craving for high sugar sodas. It takes time. I drink a lot of tea. When I drink soda for the first time, I find them way to sweet and end up not finishing it. Oh and trust me you will see results. Oh.. you can also try the instant punch that is sugar free. They are pretty good too. Shop for best prices since they tend to be pricey. Good luck
Oh....One more advice. If you work-out or play or just plain worked out a sweat. DON’T DRINK SODAS. Drink water or ice tea. Sports drinks are okay but not too much.

Yes, soda IS pretty addictive. Switching to diet soda is unproductive. It has just as much sugar in it, sometimes more. Where diet soda is "good," it is worse in other places. Any carbonated drink is bad for the stomach, and can cause heartburn from all the carbon dioxide gas coming back up. It also causes headaches. The best way to quit is to stop it completely. As with any habit, you will want to fall back and start doing it again. It takes about a month to completely rework your habit. (Just think how you want to constantly reach for the stick shift when you switch from driving a manual to an automatic vehicle : ) ) It will take some time, but with will power you can stop wanting soda altogether! Best of luck to you!

Don't switch to diet...it's horrible for you to. You just simply have to stop. Think about what you are doing to your body by drinking so much soda...rotting teeth, bad kidneys, erroded esophagus, risk of diabetes, bad skin. Is it worth it? Also, think of the money you spend on soda...what else could you buy with that?
Once you mentally prepare yourself you can stop. Drink lots of water and nothing else...to help with the headaches you may get from stopping the sodas, eat a banana or some almonds whenever you find yourself feeling ill. Then force yourself to do some kind of activity that takes your mind off your craving.
Good luck and I hope that you're on your way to becoming a healthier person!

Well if you are drinking the hard core sugar soda switch to diet..that's what I did and I lost about 20 lbs from the decrease of sugar..I love Coke Zero and just any of the diet Coke products..but as I said if you are drinking the high sugar stuff it will take some time to get use to it but it is worth it..I can't drink the sugar drinks anymore...

The easiest way would be to switch to diet. Or if you don't like the way that tastes, drink lower calorie sweet beverages, like crystal light, propel, and gatorade. Or drink half as much soda and replace it with plain water. Gradually wean yourself off soda- it'll probably work better than quitting cold turkey.

You have to give yourself motivation for stopping. When I gave up pop, I had to because I was getting braces. If you have a solid reason, it's easy because whenever you get the urge to drink a soda, you think about why you can't.

Cut yourself back slowly and find a drink you like with less sugar and caffeine drink fruit juices and tea although tea has caffeine it isn't as bad as soft drinks. If you like water try that but I'm sure you wouldn't want water all the time and with your meals
