Most likely, you won't find a healthy bulldog for under $500. These dogs are very expensive breeds!! If you do find a breeder that will charge you only $500 for a so called 'purebred' bulldog, you should be very suspicious because it won't be healthy! Please do your homework on this breed and don't just settle for ANY bulldog just because it's cheap. There will be a reason why the puppy is cheap!!
Consider adopting a dog from your local shelter. There are so many nice dogs needing homes!

If you find an English Bulldog for $500 or less, be very aware that you could spend thousands, yes thousands of dollars on vet bills! A reputable breeder is basically recovering very little more than their cost of breeding and whelping. Bulldogs are artificially inseminated, require a fair amount of vet visits during gestation and are primarily delivered through C-section. A good breeder's intent is to breed the best make the animal better and help eliminate physical ailments.

There are a lot of irreputable breeders out there, so beware. You will most likely not find a bulldog in a shelter-they usually go to rescue groups for placement. And, as others have said, read up on the breed. Bulldogs, like many purebreeds, have health issues peculiar to their breed. Due to their short snouts and truncated wind pipes, they have very special needs. (Limited activity, intolerant of heat, hip displaysia, sublexated knee joints, etc.)

If you do decide to purchase a bulldog pup, do so from a reputable breeder and be prepared to pay around $1800-$2500. A reputable breeder will insist you have a pup checked out within a certain amount of time by your vet, request that should you ever need to surrender the dog that they be given the opportunity to buy it back from you and will be a very good source of information and help with raising a bulldog. They will also provide you with papers if the dog is registered or will be registered.

I am biased since I am an owner and breeder, but I think they are worth all the expense and trouble for the dedicated love they give!

You are kidding right?

English Bulldogs are very expensive to breed and thus command a higher price.

Further, please educate yourself on common problems with the breed.

Be careful. You often get what you pay for.
