Make sure you are not talking for her. If she makes grunts and noises and points at what she wants. Point at whatever it is and tell her what it is. Then say Would you like to have some water (for example)? Try to get her to answer you. Keep doing that kind of thing. Also make sure you are not talking baby talk. Talk to her like an adult. All children develop at different rates but you can work with your child on their verbal skills. No matter what you are doing explain it to your child. People would look at me as if I was crazy walking through a store telling my son, as an infant, where we were and what we were doing. Now at 3 the boy talks so much and so clearly that I am screaming in my own head...lol

every child is different I have four 2 talked early the other two were nearly 3. My two year-will be 3 next week-has just started talking and now he goes on forever while my 1/12 year old daughter talks a little more. Just depends on the child. She is probably just holding it all in befoer long you won't be able to shut her up

My Niece was over three and barely talked, when she started it was full sentences with near perfect English. She is 18 now, in college and an A student. There is a lot of variance in children. Ask pediatrician to rule out hearing loss then wait a year. Amanda had hearing tests and early intervention tests, etc. They found nothing wrong. It is my experience that children progress unevenly. If they are working on one skills like walking other skills will lag. When one skill is mastered they will focus on another.

Very, some kids don't begin to talk until they're four. My nephew is 4 and he doesn't say much...mostly mumbles, but he's very smart. If your daughter knows what a pen is, or some other object, put one in plain sight...then ask her to bring it to you, if she has a learning dissability this will confuse her, if she doesn't she'll bring it to you. My nephew doesn't talk, but if you tell him to bring something from somewhere or to turn something off, TV, he does it, so my brother's not concerned.....each child is different, my daughter's been talking since she was 9 months old, but my son is a year and the extent of his vocabulary is bye bye...so don't worry she'll talk whenever the time's right.

My son is 2 1/2 and has speech therapy once a week. Be sure to have her hearing tested. Also the frenulum (skin) underneath my sons tongue was holding his tongue down so we had it clipped..very simple easy procedure. Also have her tested by a Ear,nose, and throat specialist. Does she understand what you tell her? Does she follow commands? If so thats a good sign. I have grown kids 24 and 23 as well as a 14 year old that all talked early, so this has worried me to death...just get her checked out and rule out everything so you don't have to worry as much.
Debbie I wish I had your email address, I'd like to ask you a question about your childs speech therapy.

You should talk her doctor about this but I think every child develops at a different pace and my guess would be that your daughter is normal. The best thing to do is talk with her doctor who would be more than happy to answer your questions and be patient she will come around.

My son was 3 1/2 yrs old and only speaking 2-3 words sentences. His hearing was good. Eyes good.
I found a school in the area that works with kids this age with speech delays.
It is called speech therapy. It made a BIG difference. It did not cost me anything. He rode the bus there and home.

If you suspect a problem, it would be best to confirm with a doctor or professional. Your child could be perfectly normal, but there is always the chance there could be a hearing problem, cognitive problem, emotional, etc, and it is best to checkt these things at a young age, so you can do as much to help as soon as possible. good luck.

at two my sons doctor told us there was nothing to worry about, hes now 3 1/2 and in special ed for speech. sometimes it can be hearing other times it can be just speech, but i would suggest that you talk to your doctor and keep talking to them. Rule out possibilities if your doctor feels the same way you do. I got lucky with my son, its just speech.
