What does ALICE as in ALICE gear stand for?

I know it's a military acronym, but I don't know what it means. Any help?

L = Lightweight
I = Individual
C = Carrying
E = Equipment

See the answer above for the acronym. It is the standard backpack for the US military. Aluminum frame, nylon body. It comes in at least two sizes that I know of.
