Try to run at the time of your day that you have the most energy, (like when you first wake up, or the middle of the day). Dont run when you are already tired. Drink lots of water throughout the day, and make sure you eat something light like 1 hour before you run. Also, run first before you do any other exercise, like weights or the bike, that way you wont be already tired when you run.
As for building endurance, you are gonna be tired when you are a beginner.... thats the whole point. You have to push yourself..... dont stop running unless you feel like youre about to pass out. If you push yourself, you will notice a great difference after a couple weeks. Give yourself a goal every week. Like one week make your goal to run 2 miles non stop. And then another, run 3 miles non stop, ect. Dont stop until you reach that goal. It will make you feel better and more motivated.
Also, try working on your breathing.... find out how its easier for you to run..its different for everyone, for example I find it easier to run when I breath with my mouth closed, or when I chew gum while I run......... and wait 2 hours after a big meal to run, if not you will get those pains on your side....
When youre running, try not to think so much about how much time you have left or how tired you are, think about other things to distract you, or run with your Ipod or MP3 player, listening to music while you run will keep your mind off running.... Running is really all in your head.... if you keepyour mind motivated you can run for miles!!! Stay focused...

Runner for some time here....You are working different muscle groups and the amount of work to run is pretty much more than every exercise other than swimming. A good way to get better is this:
1. "Indian Runs" - while running, alternate between sprinting and the slowest jog you can do - builds stamina and burst speed
2. Make sure you are hydrated and well-nourished
3. Make sure the running shoes you have are the right ones for you
4. Set a goal and stick with it - even if you have to SKOW jog the last 1/2 mile
5. Know the time of day that you are most energized and run at that time - for me, its the early evening

I love running! Don't worry about tiring easily in the beginning - you just need to build up your endurance and you do that by running (usually a little farther or a little longer each time). In the beginning you may need to walk or run slower for a while, and that's okay! Don't try to do too much too soon, or you will pay for it with overuse injuries and those will only put you even farther behind. Also, watch your running form! I ran cross-country and track all through high school and it's made me a major critic of the people I see running down the road (I can't help it! :), but it's true that so many people waste so much energy on bad form! That and it doesn't help your body! Make sure you move your arms, but DON'T cross your body when you do. Move them parallel to your body, and make sure you move them enough (think to yourself "put my nose in my pocket" - that should be the range of motion). Try not to hunch when you run, maintain good posture. Make sure you lift your knees enough, don't "shuffle" through your run, you will get more out of it if you bring your legs up enough. Try to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Try to run outside rather than on a treadmill, and vary your workouts (speed, hills, etc.), or at least vary your scenary! Avoid cement and asphalt, run on softer surfaces like dirt. Get good running shoes (and use them ONLY for running, don't get cross trainers or use your everyday sneakers)! Make sure you are well-hydrated prior to your run, and replenish afterward. Get a running buddy, either a dog or a friend (or both :). Try to make it fun and enjoy your time out there!

Happy running! :)

when I go to the gym I warm up on the elliptical and the bike, then walk for 5 minutes on the treadmill and then start running. I noticed when I'm really warmed up I can run a lot longer than I used to. Your body will get used to it, just keep it up!

Just do it.... Keep at it, and you will get better. I couldn't even run more than two blocks when I started, and I just did my first half-marathon a few weeks ago.... I love running, and how it makes me look and feel.

Just run a little further or faster every day or so. And you will begin to build endurance.

Drink a lot of fluids, keep at it. Eventually you'll build the stamina and be able to run more.

You should try to incorporate walking into your running. Gradually decrease the amount of walking and increase you running.
