I live on the other side of the world and when we talk on the phone we don't have much to say. I feel really bad... I want him to know I how much I love him but it's not always easy for us to have much of a good conversation. (I can't afford to spend a bunch of money on "showing" him I care)

It was always easier for me to say what I feel in a letter. No one can interrupt you or steal your thunder when they have to read what you are feeling. So write him a letter and tell him all the great things you remember as a child and how much you've learned from him. And how much you really do miss him.

HOW CHEAP IS CHEAP? YOU CAN SPEND SOMETHING ON YOUR DAD. IF IT WAS SOMETHING YOU WANTED YOU WOULD FIND THE MONEY NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT WAS, SO DON'T BE SELFISH FIND $20 .BUY YOUR DAD A NICE CARD THAT SAYS WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY.(CARDS ARE 2 FOR A $1 AT MOST DOLLAR STORES) AND A NICE CD ,JAZZ ,EASY LISENTING OR WHATEVER IS HIS FAVORITE OR A COOL BUTTON DOWN SHIRT THAT LOOKS NICE WITH JEANS OR KHAKIS,OR A SPORTS RELATED GIFT LIKE A FITTED HAT OR T-SHIRT ANY OF THESE THINGS CAN BE FOUND FOR LESS THAN $20 AND I'M SURE YOUR DAD IS WORTH IT AND GIVES YOU WAY MORE THAN A $20 GIFT ANY DAY...NOW USE YOUR IMAGANATION....HAPPY FATHERS DAY !

There are so many ways you can show that you care that don't need money. Nowadays people believe you have to have money to do anything! You love him and you express that to him every time you call him up. When you're there for him, you're expressing love in profound words. Mail him a card for Father's Day and put $5.00 or $10.00 a gift card in it; it doesn't have to be much. Mail him pictures of you every now and then.

Write a poem. Send him a video tape of you telling him how you feel so he can watch it over and over again. You are what is important, not a gift. I know, I am a Dad with two grown kids that do not give me much attention.

Write out what you want to say to him and then call him and read it if you have to. There's nothing this Dad would love better than to hear those things from my kids.

I would try getting a conversation going with him for just one day. One phone call.
