Yes. In fact, if each of us studied the 8 Millennium Development Goals and strived to help just one person each year until 2015, then we would reach that goal.

See the MDGs at this website.

Maslow (a great behaviorial scientist) said that once a need is met, another one takes it's place. However, if each one of us helped just one other person, theoretically, the needs of the masses would decrease. However, most people suffer from more than just one problem. I think that if each of us helped the same person three times, then the needs of the masses would probably decrease. There are many, many people who cannot even help themselves. How would the others of us expect one of that ilk to help another? If we are just the best person we can be, hopefully, we would set a good example for others.

Depends entirely on the type of help you give.
Giving money will never help. It might make things better for that person for a short while but when someone needs money there is normally a good reason they didn't have it to begin with.
Giving praise or rewards (anything self esteem boosting comments to passing a failing student) they didn't earn or deserve just sets them up failure when they do hit reality.
You can't give an education. You can send someone to school but you can't force them to either learn or apply the knowledge presented.
The only thing you can give someone that can help is a chance, but even then they have to understand that there is some form of payment required. For example if you give someone a job you should expect good work in return. If you help someone through school they should repay the loan latter.
Requiring repayment it not done solely for the benefit from the loaner but also for the well being of the receiver. If the loan or trust is required to be re-payed the receive is then never put in the position of being inferior to the person granting the loan. The receiver will achieve a true sense of pride and self worth as he makes good on the loan.

No, I think that those who help would keep helping and those who accept would keep accepting. I believe that if each of us acted more consistently to help ourselves the needs of the masses would decrease. Look at the Katrina disaster. Some of those people spent their aid checks on booze, drugs, electronics, ect. Look at all the disability and welfare money that goes for drugs, bling, booze and how little goes for education and job training. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he will eat for a life time, but in order to inspire him to go fishing you have to stop giving him free fish

Yes I Do! We all need to learn a little compassion! When you walk down the street do you say hi to people and have a nice day? What has happened to human kindness and consideration!! I live next to a laundromat and there are homeless people in there at night. I took food over to them and some sodas, I felt good for a week! Everyone should pay it forward!

NO, you would increase the number of needy people.

Everyone is looking for a free ride. It just depends on how low you want to lower your standard of life before you help yourself.

Anything you do to make yourself better will rub off on others. Be selfish enough to become a better person, improving who you are.
