I need to store a suitcase for a day (while I'm sightseeing) in either Newark Penn Station or NY Penn Station. Does anyone know if there are lockers at either train station?

I do not think that there are lockers in New York Penn Station. Years ago (if you look at old movies you can see them), there used to be lockers in Grand Central Station, but not anymore.
Besides, in this age of terrorism threats, there is no way that Public Transportation Hubs are going to have places where a suspicious package can be placed.
If you are traveling via Amtrak from Penn Station, you might be able to check your bag early if you are departing several hours later.
