Joel tells lots of great stories, but doesn't mention sin very much. The Gospel is not about life-enhancement, but about redeeming us from sin through Jesus.

I've met him, he's a nice man. He was a good kid growing up, I remember that (we're the same age and rotated in the same circles during high school). He's genuine, he is definately a man of God.
I'm not that excited about his preaching though lol. I prefer the doctrinal teachings of Ed Young, another famous pastor in Houston. Joel tends to focus on a theme, going to different verses to prove his point, never really thoroughly teaching a particular bible story like Dr. Young. But then again, Joel never attended seminary.

His ministry is mainly encouraging the BOC...he is very annointed at it......all christians need it from time to time....when we are in the desert or facing trials ...it is good to turn on his program and be encouraged...

I think he is honestly an awesome pastor, very good-natured, very pure in heart and spirt. i attend lakewood church, and have met him occasional times and he is very commited to doing gods work. so, he basically rocks!
