Maybe you should buy him a buddy.

He's probably making a whining noise that sounds like crying. If he's a baby then this is because he misses where he came from and is having a hard time adjusting. It could be he was sold too early. He probably misses eating formula.
Make some oatmeal, or soak some bread, and make a sort of paste. Offer it to him on a spoon. Baby birds appriciate that.

If he's not a baby (older than two years) then it's just something you have to put up with. Birds make noise, and you can't reward him with attention (positive or negative) for doing this. If you do he'll learn that all he has to do for entertainment is scream. Read the book "My Parrot, My friend" (yes, budgies ARE parrots) and that will explain to you how their minds work.

I have not heard a budgie cry but if you mean it is continuously chirping in a calling out kind of way, then it is calling for its flock or recently lost friend. If it is to be a companion bird without the companionship of other birds, you need to provide it with lots of attention.
Budgerigars are not like goldfish. They need as much attention as you would give a dog and don't do well and are not happy without being socialised.
Make sure it has plenty of toys to keep it amused. A mirror helps a lot but make sure it is a mirror especially for budgerigars and will withstand the rough treatment it will receive.
Hope this helps.

First of all, is he crying or just talking, because parakeets are quite talkative little one's and it might just be doing a lot of talking. Have you recently lost a mate of his/hers? if so, the bird is heart broken and misses it's mate. Try to have mirror around for him/her so that he will feel he/she is not alone. Try putting on some soothing music with sounds of birds in it and maybe it will sooth the bird as well. Talk to it and interact with the bird, it might just be lonely and wants someone to play with. I know my 2 parakeets love to play daily and if I don't they will get noisey till I do (but my 2 a very spoiled too). Make sure there is nothing in the cage that is hurting the bird or upsetting the bird and also, make sure that the bird is not hurt or sick in anyway. crying or different sounds than the usual sounds they make means something isn't right, try to find out what that is and then the bird will be ok. Good luck and enjoy your little birdie.

All of us could be right. Is he a young budgie? maybe it misses it's budies. Was he/she next to another budgie when you got him/her. Always pay attention to the little guy never let him/her be lonely.

How about try giving it a mirror? Sometimes birds get much enjoyment out of having a mirror. Sounds simple but it could solve your problem.

Has he recently lost a mate? If he is used to being alone, perhaps he wants a mate. Then, again, he could be hurting.

I have four....two pairs of two. They are very social and I think yours needs a mate. Perhaps he/she needs some toys to climb on also. It may be bored
