The poor little things is just sleeping where he feels most comfortable - he is feeling insecure at the moment and just hasn't sorted himself out yet. There are a few things you can try -leave that particular water dish there for him to sleep on without any water in it and put a different container in the cage for his water. It is possible he has decided this is his sleeping venue and will remain there. I have several rosellas. Two of the females sleep on their mineral block and have from the start. They are comfortable there so I have never moved them. One of the male rosellas spent his first few weeks sleeping on his seed box. I used to leave him an empty one in that position every night as I had the same problem with poo but he eventually moved to the top perch where he found it more comfortable.

Alternatively, if you really don't want him there, try putting the water dish on the floor of the cage. Most birds prefer the higher areas of their cage so he might decide to move away from it.

Oh, I have parrots that do this eeeevery night!
For some reason they ust like it there. I'm sure they can get a nice drink in the night if they get thirsty there.
The essential thing is not to punish them for this! I mean come on, they spend their whole lives in cages save for a few precious hours a day they get let out, they should be at least free to sleep where they like! Water dishes need to be changed every day anyway, so it may as well be in the morning after they've been loaded with poop!

My cockatiel drinks from a water bottle, similiar to the ones that hamsters use. This does away with the pooping in the water! If you decide to do this, you have to wean them off of the water dish gradually. You don't want your bird to get dehydrated. Don't remove the water dish until you have visually seen your bird drink from the water bottle. Good luck! Cockatiels are awesome.

I have had my cockateil for about three months now. She sometimes sleeps on her water cup or on a small parakeet perch that hangs in her cage. Did you know that they get night terrors? I have a night light next to Sugar's cage.

Cockateils LOVE water. try putting two water containers in there. Maybe it will choose one to drink from and one to play in.

Get it a water dish that's not so easy to sit on top of. I got mine the Top Wing Inside Bird Fountain, available from any pet store.

Just give him a few days to get adjusted to your house. Moving everything around freaked him out. Give him time.
