I've run into a not-enough-room issue with redecorating my house, and was wondering if it would be acceptable to position my alter at a slight north-east wall instead of a northern corner?

The topic clearly states "Wiccan advice" not "Christian advice". If I wanted Christian advice, I would have asked for it. Now, Please take your I'm-going-to-save-your-soul attitudes elsewhere. Thank you for your cooperation.

The answer here is really simple: you need to figure out what you believe. The fact that you feel your cross keeps away demons doesn't mean a thing. Do you believe in the Christian God? Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Then you're a Christian, not a Wiccan. It would make no more sense for you to practice Wicca than it would for you to practice Hinduism. Do you believe in multiple deities? Do you view the universe as the result of complementary dichotomies? Do you beleive in personal connection between us and our gods? Then Wicca might be for you. If you don't believe in any of thise, you're neither Christian nor Wiccan, which still makes Wicca a very silly thing for you to practice. Wicca is a religion. You follow it if you believe it. That's the only reason you follow it. So before you "become Wicca" you need to figure out 1) what you believe 2) what Wicca is and 3) whether your beliefs and that of Wicca are at all compatable.

Hy Joan! the wall of North-east is good enough, since the gate to the candidate to be initiate is in that corner and is also the place we enter into the circle to the Sabbath ceremonies. in stregueria, the north-east is the place where the Gods are placed, so go on!

I agree with Amber C...as long as the primary direction is North (Northwest and Northeast are secondary directions), I don't believe it will matter. Remember that a "Northern corner" by its nature includes Northwest and Northeast. I think that proximity to the corner might be a larger issue.

dontcha just love when people put down things that have absolutely no bearing on the question? Or write things that are misconceived notions? Demons? Oh give me a big fat break.... *rolls eyes* That isn't wicca. Nature ~ Air, Water, Fire, Land, seas, animals, the sky, wind,.... now that's wicca.

as to the actual question... Northeast is just as good. It's included in the general "north" direction.

I am a pagan, not a Wiccan but close enough, and I don't think its going to matter too much. If you do good things and send out good energy then the way you do it isn't that important.

I'm pretty sure the Lady shall forgive you for putting it to the North-East. Just check out what others say.

Please make sure to ignore the dummies who keep saying to you, "you shouldn't do it" or "no" or "evil" or quote the Bible. But I think you know that already.

In the morning when the men of the town got up, there was Baal's altar, demolished, with the Asherah pole beside it cut down and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar!

29 They asked each other, "Who did this?"
When they carefully investigated, they were told, "Gideon son of Joash did it."

30 The men of the town demanded of Joash, "Bring out your son. He must die, because he has broken down Baal's altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it."

31 But Joash replied to the hostile crowd around him, "Are you going to plead Baal's cause? Are you trying to save him? Whoever fights for him shall be put to death by morning! If Baal really is a god, he can defend himself when someone breaks down his altar." 32 So that day they called Gideon "Jerub-Baal, [g] " saying, "Let Baal contend with him," because he broke down Baal's altar.

Improvisation is a necessity to survival. If you convince yourself that the alter is north, no matter where it actually is, then it is north to you.
