I drives me NUTS!!!!! My friend babysits for this little girl and she, and her two older sisters chew with their mouths open. They have absolutly no table manners at all. When we go out to lunch I am always trying to teach the girls the proper manners and my friend (the sitter) actually gets pissed at me for correcting the girls. And no I don't do it in a mean way, I always try to make it a fun learning situation. But then again my friend doesn't have the best manners either.

While it may be considered rude to stare at someone so you notice their eating habits, when you are around the person long enough, or are sitting across the table from them, one does tend to notice such things. Now, the real question here, is what does one do when they notice and are offended by the behavior? Well, it depends on how long you have known the person, and if you are going to have to suffer the person's eating habits for much longer after the lunch. If this is a one-time thing, or you are in an interview, it is better to stay quiet. However, if you know that you are going to be around this person for a while, and there is no avoiding their behavior by moving to a different table, then you should tell the open-mouth chewing person nicely that it bothers you when they chew with their mouth open, and if they could try and not to do it around you. (Generally, most people are willing to comply with the request, if it is done nicely, and carefully phrased.) It is much better to do this earlier rather then later, since you don't want the person's habit to get so grating that you end up snapping or lashing out at them.

You are right to believe these people are disgusting. People need to learn their manners when eating out or in for that matter. The best thing to do is to ignore people that are doing this when you are trying to eat.

It bothers me a lot.
It also bothers me when people pick their teeth with the salad fork, blow their noses into the napkins, and discuss their recent surgery ordeals in great - and loud - detail.
And that was the *edited* list.
I don't eat out much.
