Trying to figure out what type of fish that is that Captain D's serve? Not a big fish eater but did enjoy Captain D's the first time I had it here recently. Trying to find what type of fish it is that they're selling as I would like to buy some from the local grocier for home. Any thoughts?

It is Alaskan Whitefish. It is very mild in flavor. You can"t even tell that it is fish. Then they use a Tempra batter.(must be mixed with cold water)Your oil must be extremely hot. Fish cooks rapidliy.Alaskan Whitefish is also used in Imitation Crabmeat.

Talipa, Mai Mai and Salmon are favorites of mine. I like cod and halibut as well. I love fish, but do not eat as much of it as I should. The fish and chips you describe sounds yummy. Years ago, we had an H. Salt fast food restaurant here in the midwest U.S. and it was so good. The batter used for the fish was so delicious. Captain D's bought them out and it is not the same as H. Salt was. We have mostly fries with fish dinners around here, not as many 'chips.' I prefer the fried 'chips.' A cousin of mine gave me a recipe many years ago for the batter used by Long John Silvers. I made it once, but would rather go there to eat. ha ha. Captain D's bought them out and it is not the same as H. Salt was. I find many of the fast food chains around here, the deep fried fish is greasy.

Cod. A very mild tasting & soft-smelling white fish.

It has to be Cod or Haddock because they are in abundance especially here in Canada. Easy to produce and easy to use in batters.

Captain D's isn't selling anything remotely close to what could be considered fish.
