When he stands on his hind legs, the 170-pound "Harlequin" Great Dane is more than 7 feet tall, and has a shoulder height of 42.6 inches (topping Harvey's old record of 41.5 inches). Thankfully for everyone, Gibson is just a big, friendly puppy dog.

Irish wolfhounds are generally the tallest. I am not sure of the height. But specifically the tallest dog ever recorded is a great dane, who stands over 6 ft when on his hind legs. He was on Ellen.

the biggest and tallest dog in the world was a mastif, but in general they are irish wolfhounds
