This is why highway cops will tell you that the worst and most dangerous place in the world to park is on the shoulder of a highway-you should pull off onto the grass because of this very reason. In fact, not just impaired drivers but all drivers tend to 'follow the lights' this is why so many police officers are killed by another vehicle while beside a car on the shoulder of a highway. This is why The law requires drivers who see, ahead of them, the flashing lights of emergency vehicles that are pulled over onto the side of the road to give those emergency workers plenty of room, by moving over at least one lane. If the drivers can't move over, they must slow down, below the speed limit.

Inebriated drivers tend to drive toward flashing blue lights and away from flashing red lights......if you notice on most police cruisers the configuration of the lights are "red on the drivers side and blue on the passenger side"....studies have shown for some reason this to be true.....I don't know why but it is.

A difficult question. The only way to know is to drive impaired-drunk- and find out for yourself.

Having retired from law-enforment, I do tend to believe that drunks are attracted to bright and flashing lights. I, almost have been run over at traffic stops by drunks.

Cops will tell you that sometimes drunks fixate on flashing lights on the side of the road, like emergency flashers. Then they ram them. But I've only heard that, I have no proof other than what the cops said.

Under the influence of something???? Yes quite possible! But even in that senerio, again, their REAL problem wouldn't be poor vision!!! ;)
