After reviewing scientific studies, FDA determined in 1981 that aspartame was safe for use in foods. In 1987, the General Accounting Office investigated the process surrounding FDA's approval of aspartame and confirmed the agency had acted properly. However, FDA has continued to review complaints alleging adverse reactions to products containing aspartame. To date, FDA has not determined any consistent pattern of symptoms that can be attributed to the use of aspartame, nor is the agency aware of any recent studies that clearly show safety problems.
Carefully controlled clinical studies show that aspartame is not an allergen. However, certain people with the genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU), and pregnant women with hyperphenylalanine (high levels of phenylalanine in blood) have a problem with aspartame because they do not effectively metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine, one of aspartame's components. High levels of this amino acid in body fluids can cause brain damage. Therefore, FDA has ruled that all products containing aspartame must include a warning to phenylketonurics that the sweetener contains phenylalanine.

Aspartame is unsafe in anything, not just crystal light. It is a neurotoxin. Not only that but it fools your mind into thinking you have had sugar but it doesn't food your body so your body still craves sugar. Try buying some xylitol as a sugar substitute and add it to lemon juice or kool-aid powder for a lower calorie, healthier, good for your teeth, good for diabetics all natural sweetener.

Aspartame has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats. What I have heard, however, is that a human would have to eat somethign like a traincar-load of aspartame a week to have problems.
I have been using aspartame based sweeteners since they were widely available in the early 80s and haven't got cancer. I wouldn't worry about it. Look it up online if you are worried, though, or ask your Dr.

They is reseach on aspartame showing that some people can get such symptoms as headaches (me) and higher blood pressure. I would try to find splenda sweetened products as so far no bad reports on it that I have heard. I use an herbal sweetener called, "stevia" that you would most likely have to get at a health store. I have used it for many years without any problems.
