I asked a couple questions about the Christian teaching that animals were made to serve human purposes. But it seems like most people just jumped all over me. Some thought that I was saying that I believed that they were made for human purposes (I don't believe that). Others took the opposite approach and acted like I was trying to make a lousy argument for vegetarianism.

Why can't people just answer a question without making all these assumptions and judgments?

Because a lot of people are "functionally illiterate", which means they understand each word they read, but they can't fit the words together to understand the big idea. It's a very common problem in North America. A lot of people on Yahoo Answers will zero in on a few words or phrases, and ignore the context of the question, or the way those words and phrases fit in with the greater whole. Chalk it up to poor reading skills.

there are many reason why people jump to thier own conclusion.for 1 freedom of speech.2 you ask them a question 3some people just are very silly, and are not very good listener.they hear what they want to hear, that why they jump to thier own conclusion, which cause confusion . 4 maybe they dont expect anything good out of you.there are some things you ask certain people and some things you just dont ask certain people.remember everyone is not a like ,what u agree on i might not.so when yuo ask question dont always expect to get the respone u want.so good luck.and i can answer your question but i know that everything on this earth is here to serve a purpose.

its been my expirence that everyone has a believe and answer every question like the questioner doesnt have that same believe

ive asked questions where in the details ive said would jesus let mary magdaline abort their child, which is obvoiusly a play on davinci code and an attempt at humor, obviously im not a christian,

and i get from at least 5 people why are you forcing your christianity on me im an atheist and im not changing

well, duh, but read the question and the details

so it is and thats just the way it is

some just keep right on trucking with their cut and pastes

some just go off on everyone im not believing in your god

obnoxious

Sometimes it's the way that the question is phrased. Everything is up to individual interpretation. Sometimes, though, people just make a big deal about nothing because they like to feel smarter than the questioner.

Maybe because the topic of religion is really touchy. I find the people that seem to be so easy to assume are the ones most convicted in their beliefs (religionists and non-religionists alike). They're so concerned with judging people and so convinced they are correct.

These are just MY assumptions, which could be equally misplaced.

Because it's easier to attack the person than answer something that makes you uncomfortable. Sad that.
