personally I prefer my child to be in a Home based daycare over Childcare center, I feel that in a Home Daycare they get the attention needed (depending on how many kids there are) With a childcare center I think that they always have to many kids and not enough people and it doesn't seem to me that they are very sanitary. With a home daycare make sure they are licensed with DCFS that way you can check to see if they have ever violated their license. To tell you the truth you are the only one that can make that decision on where your kids go, just make sure that you investigate everything.

I prefer home childcare. Usually home daycare is more personable. I feel daycare centers can be too much of a business and less about the child. My only concern with any daycare is making sure they are licensed. Being licensed means there is an organization that makes routine inspections of the facilities to make sure it is operating properly. Sometimes with home daycares it's just somebody helping out the neighborhood and it isn't regulated. Luckily I'm blessed that my child's grandmother is already a home daycare provider and is willing to keep my son while I'm at work. Oh, and one other point, home daycares usually don't keep as many kids as a childcare center thus reducing the chances of your child being exposed to illnesses brought in by other children.

Depends on the age. I started my daughter in a childcare center at the age of 3 part time, I just felt that socialization is very crucial in prep for pre-k also I noticed children become more articulate and better adjusted being around more children their age. Anything younger than 3, I would definitely go with the home daycare, but my daughter did become more outgoing, she's now 5 going into kindergarten come August and she is completely prepared, she's been reading since 4 and she has quite the social life, I felt center was really a push in the right direction for us, I don't think home daycare would have given the same result..

Mt children are in a home daycare and It is working out very well. They are happy and get more attention and get to go places and do things they didn't at the childcare center. The key to a home daycare is to be sure you trust the person completely, cause there is usually not anyone but the provider and your kids to tell you what is going on while you are gone(no helpers or other staff).

You have to be very careful with either one and do a lot of investigating, especially if your child doesn't talk yet. I worked in several major day care centers that were NAEYC accredited, and from an insider's point of view, I could tell you horror stories. Some chain day care centers are great at making the place look wonderful for the parents, but they are horribly overcrowded and understaffed and the staff they do have are untrained. (Not ALL daycares though.) But I've also known of a few home daycare providers who did things such as leaving the children to watch TV all day long, having their own 10-year-old children watch the babies while the adult went out or slept, drinking around the kids, etc. You just have to do a lot of checking out different places, and follow your gut feeling!

I prefer a Childcare center. I work for public school system as a primary teacher and I believe in public care.
First of all, I need consistent reliability as far as care. I cant take work off because my home childcare provider is ill or needs a medical leave.
Second of all, I want my child to be prepared for the environment she will get to when she goes on to school.
You need to research the environment you choose though. Not all centers or providers are the same!
Before I worked in the public school system teaching I worked as a pre-k teacher in a private school. It was a childcare center YES but it was considered a private SCHOOL. They had their own private elementary school(K-5) that the children progressed to. We were accredited by NAYCE. We had cameras in our rooms that monitored everything. Teachers were very accountable yet respected very highly and so we gave our all. There was very little turn-over. Very little. There is a BIG difference in care you get from place to place.
When I moved and decided to have my own family I was disappointed that my area didnt offer anything like where I had worked. I just researched and visited many different places and chose a great place for my daughter. It's a childcare center. It is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
They say people tend to shop and research for their cars more than for their child's care. Just don't be one of those people. GOOD LUCK!

I work in a child care center, we follow the state licensing requirements as far as child teacher ratios. We have small groups and the children do get the interaction that they need. Also there are times the centers offer more for a child then homes. Also we follow the food program and the children are offered a wide variety of meals. Check with your local Dept of Family Services and check files on both, but not all centers are bad. Please look at both and see what will work best for you and your family.

For me I definitely wanted a home day care when they were very young. I had to go back to work right away after my children were born, and I wanted to make sure that they got the attention they needed. I really felt that it was more important that my child got love and affection and I didn't really feel they could get that in a center. I have been very lucky in all of my home day care experiences. They have been wonderful women who truly loved my girls like their own. Heck, I think one year they got more from the babysitter at Easter than they did form me! It is so much more important that they feel loved and secure at that age.
Once my girls turned 3 and were potty trained then I switched them to a day care center with a preschool curriculum because I felt that it was time to make sure that they had more of a structured environment and could get socialized in a group setting of their peers so that they would be ready for school
Those are just my thoughts and opinions, and I hope you find the perfect fit for you.

a center. it's more money but it's worth it. I have a few reason for this.
1. At a center there is no need to transport your child in a vehicle. At a home you have the risk of the provider on the phone while driving.
2. At a home child care you have no idea who might 'pop buy' it might be family of theirs but it's a business and that should not be tolerated.
3. At a home they might have their older children caring for your child.
4. When your child is at a center you can be assured that they are not sitting in front of TV all day.
5. Children need to interact with children their own age. With a home day care there are other children but the ages vary and bigger kids my not be the best thing for your younger child to be exposed to.
that is a few reason that i have... hope it helps.. .laters!

Depends on how old the child is. Under three I'd prefer a home daycare with people I trust deeply. After three, I prefer a center based preschool. My daughter attends UCP run preschool. It has an integrated daycare, so the "normal" kids are exposed to children with disabilities. This fosters acceptance later in life, if you ask me. For us it was also helpful as our girl also receives physical therapy 2X's weekly for mild CP. It also has the advantage of having multiple ethnic groups represented, so my girl isn't the only nonwhite kid in her class.
