Unless he pays the bond he will remain in custody until the case is adjudicated (finished). He might, however, suggest to his attorney to file a "Motion to Modify Release Orders". The motion would request the lowering of the bail bond amount. Frequently, if ou have been incarcerated for a month or two the judge may lower the bond and or release the person to pre-trial services and eliminate the bond.
This motion, however, is not automatic and the defendant should discuss this with his attorney.

They will be in jail till they pay the bond, get a bails bondman if they allow it, or till they go to trial, trial can be a month or two in some areas and longer if continued for varoius reason.
If you mean how much jail time after they are found guilty, sadly the majority of the time in the US none to 30 days ( often allowed to be served on weekend if working

$2000 bond would only be $200 bail. Has he only been to his arraignment?

probbaly not for more than a week or two. People often just get a slap on the wrist and a court date for this kind of stuff.
